Hi

If you are going for deer (mainly) fox and Boar then yes. Other may suggest .270 for all 3 animals - personally having shot both the 308 would get my vote

It was once difficult to get fox written on your certificate for deer AND fox with a calibre such as 308, but that is now all changing.

The .308 will do everything that you have asked of it.

Privi Partisan ammunition is available in 150gr soft points for about £40 per hundred and shoots around 1.25" groups out of my rifle.

If this stuff shoots well in your rifle then you need never open a set of reloading tables in your life.

The best value new rifles at the moment are made by Howa in Japan. The useful thing about these is that they have the same basic dimensions as the Remington 700, so any mounts, bases, triggers etc are readily available.

They also come fitted with Hogue overmoulded stocks which have a "grippy" rubber texture and make almost no sound when your binoculars clonk against the stock.
