Symon 0
A noble idea, but just how would the "club" prevent the stealing of dogs and how would it find them again? What would be its aims when a dog was found and how would it "punish" the offenders.........and please, none of the vigilanti crap from folk. Just what would any joining fee or subs be paying for? Hi wilf please read on I think I have pretty much answered these questions for you but I would like to add: FEE!! This would be kept in a kitty by the Alliance Treasurer for funds with getting members together when needed! And we will also hold social events so funds would be needed to help make things like this happen. The fee amount is undecided at the moment but it will be decided once all members are together at our first meet, and all will have an input with this regard. We will build a local knowledge of thieves and when I say power in numbers this is what I mean! If we can build the club to a decent number of members we can then use our member’s ears eyes and other contacts within the dog world to our advantage! We will build a list of known thieves and their movements their contacts and this knowledge would be available to all our members. This is how you narrow down the search for stolen dogs. The punishment for offenders is not our primary concern but they would be listed with their name and address details and this information would filter through the entire working dog fraternity all that work/ breed /or show dogs would know who they were where they live and what dogs they have taken! It would be incredibly difficult for some thief with this black listing to ever shift stolen dogs! So they would be encouraged NOT to steal dogs again. We will also work along side other organisations like the FMWTC and local authorities when needed rather than blatantly breaking the law. Thankyou Wilf for your interest Sound good enough.........once you have thrashed out the details I think most people would be iterested in such an organisation. The punishment you describe, as in making the scumbags known to one and all, is the best punishment and the only one that would be really effective. Good sound ideas, I hope you can build on them and I for one would happily pay some subs to such a "club" Many thanks for your coments and support Wilf, the punishment we feel would work without the need for breaking the law and ending up in jail! after all you may get your dog or dogs back but then who would then be around to care for them as well as their owner Thankyou once again, Symon. Symon 0
WE ALLREADY HAVE THE MEANS TO COMMUNICATE, THIS SITE PLUS THE FELL AND MOORLAND, AND ALL THERE BRANCHES PLUS THE VARIOUS OTHER TERRIER CLUBS WERE BETTER TO PUBLISISE THE THEFT OF DOGS THAN ALL THE SHOWS THRUOUT THE SUMMER MONTHS, AND IN THE WINTER THIS SITE AND OTHERS LIKE IT , A GREAT IDEA SYMON BUT WHY NOT USE AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE MEMBERSHIP THATS ALLREADY IN PLACE There is nothing wrong with taking advantage of memberships that already exsist but I and many others feel that although these orginisations serve well there is still dogs being stolen and thats fact!! if we can build on numbers and like ive said here work along side these organisations then we CAN make a huge impact on the outstanding number of dog theft that still pervails here in the UK! Symon 0
What would this group do that Lurcher Search and Dog Lost don't do already? Not saying it's not a good idea, but there are 2 national organisations trying to respond to dog thefts as it is and unless you'd be doing something different maybe it'd be more effective to support what exists already? Like ive said this Alliance would work along side exsisting organisations and theft is still a massive factor here!! dont take this as being an Alliance that is looking to out do exsisting organisations but something that with many members can work along side them! I dont like repeating myself but dog theft is still going on with these organisations in place! I am not saying that they are failing. NOT at all they do great work and do produce results all we want to do is get many members and contacts together to help boost these results so that we all can benifit. Between us we can put a stop to whats happening! Quote Link to post

jessdale 416
It sounds a good idea in theory mate, keep us informed .I recently attended the RVWTC meeting regarding terrier thefts to try and put some ideas together.Without a doubt the internet, and texting,is the fastest way to get the word around once dogs have been stolen, magazines and papers can be a week or even a month behind the thefts .I contacted the admin,or owners,of several Uk based hunting sites to suggest a "pop up" type alert system similar to the "pop ups" you get when you visit porn sites , or so i have been told .For example Joe bloggs gets up at 6am to see his dogs have been stolen,he then rings me to get in touch with the hunting site to activate a stolen dog "pop up".So when big bill logs on at 9 am he is immediatly hit with a "pop up" page with the details of the thefts.Because of the massive traffic some of these site get it is very easy to miss a stolen dog thread either by it going on to "page 2" or it being placed in "general talk" or "running dogs" which some people do not check.Unfortunatley it seems this would not be possible on certain sites but i am still waiting to hear back from one site.Good luck with the club Quote Link to post

Which site will lead the rest ? Symon, Good luck, work with all working dog clubs as well as individuals. May be worth getting in touch with RVWTC see what was sorted with other clubs. Foxterrier 22
Off topic question. Are dogs stolen by anti-hunters ? Sold to other hunters ? Sold as pets ? Used in dog fighting or training ? Or is it any other reason ? Edited August 1, 2008 by Foxterrier Quote Link to post

I think that the stolen dog pop up is a good idea and should definatly be done if and where possible. I just think that although alot of people on these sites are doer's, there are also a big pecentage that are just keyboard hunters and although they talk a good talk they dont nessesarily get out and about to see stolen dogs that may surface! It would still be a benifit to finding dogs or like you say broadcast the fact to a wide spectrum of internet users and would be benifical i am sure. Its something that needs to be included and thakyou for the idea Jess Quote Link to post

You would think so wouldn't you!! Thanks for your well wishes mate and the RVWTC along with FMWTC and others are great in the work that they do BUT! we need to do more as like ive said here dog's ARE still being nicked with these organisations in place!! Ive spoken to steve who had 5 stolen recently and he did mention to me that he went to an orginisation (I wont name which one) and they were as helpful as a chocolate oven glove! he knew where his dogs were but had no back up!! what i am trying to do is form this Alliance to help HANDS ON! actually get people out there actively searching and speaking about these cases! Just one way that we could of helped Steve for example is if we as an orginisation travelled up to Steve and went with him to help him retrieve his dogs! like ive said before if you had a stolen dog in your place and 30 or 40+ guys turned up asking for the dogs return WHAT YA GONNA DO!! we wouldn't be breaking the law and violence would not be nessessary! this is just one thing that i see this Alliance that we are trying to get together greatly differing from any other that i know of!! We need to put a bloody stop to this and unless we combine all of our resources then i am afraid it will continue IT COULD BE ANY ONE OF US THAT GETS HIT NEXT!!! Quote Link to post
