gaza 509
Can anyone give me any advice please with regards gaining ferreting/lamping permission. Should I approach farmers directly or send some sort of letter. I know a while back someone posted a useful template letter but I cant find it on the site. Ive got my whole ferreting set up sorted and my first lurcher, i just need some permission to give her the work she deserves. Thanks. Quote Link to post

Start by lookinhg around and finding the right type of permission for you, then post some letters , politly asking if they require a pest control service , free of charge , with a self addressed envelope enclosed ( so they can reply easily ) Keeps posting and sooner or later you will get a reply , then go and present yourself and Bobs your uncle Quote Link to post

Im lucky we have our own land to work and my partner either owns most of the land around here or his family own the rest. But if i was starting out like your self id write a polite letter to all the farmers in the area, maybe offer your help on the farm at harvest or busy times in return, just introduce yourself and tell them about your self and your dogs etc. Maybe invite the farmer/older kids to come out with you and watch what you do, some of the old farmers probably havent seen ferreting or lurcher work since they where younger themselves. Also see if there is a small farms association in your area, advertise through them. Some of the smaller farmers maybe desperate to rid there farm of a few hundred rabbits Quote Link to post

BenBhoy 4,706
how did you find so many adresses slimshady, just looking through local yellow pages like? in my experience letters often do end up in bin. like snoopy said, just pop round, look smart, and above all if that farmer says no, then dont get mouthy or agressive, cos chances are he'll be in touch with all the other farmers on your list. good luck. jedandlevo 8
i always find that a sensible letter requesting permission and what you inntend to do make it sound like the farmer is gaining some thing from your presents i allways start of with ferreting or even a spot of ratting then work my way around the farmer to get the dogs inthe feilds lamping hope this helps . jedandlevo Quote Link to post
gaza 509
Thanks a lot for the useful input, Im gonna start sending a few letters out this coming weekend. Ive got a feeling my age might count against me, but if I dont get any replies Im going to pop round dressed smart after work. Quote Link to post
ferretville 69
Face to face with the farmer will work better than any letter mate and main thing keep at it . Once you get one bit of land your in buisness do it right and it won`t belong before you get more . Quote Link to post
