beaver76 1
I went for a walk with the dogs today nothing to strenious checked a couple of 2holers.Nothing home.carried on around the wood came across another small 2holer my black bitch showed a bit of intrest but nothing home again.the bitch was backin out and just stoped about a foot inside an stayed there.i left her for a min then called her no movement so i put my hand in and drew her out.pulled her clear and she just slumped to the ground not a stirr bearly breathing then i saw a wasp an onother she was covered in them all around her neck.i managed to get the wasps off but her breathing had nearly lasped at this time.i told my son to grab the spade and ran to the van.i was only 5mins away from the vet i use rang him on the way he was waitin when i got there.he gave her 2 shots of something and within 10 mins she was startin to come round.he said she was very lucky could have killed her if i hadn't got to him quick enough...just woundering has this ever happened to any one on here? Rolfe 2
You were extremely lucky there............I do about 300 + wasp nests a year and some of my customers have to carry an epi-pen to administer if they get stung......I had never heard of a dog suffering from it as well. Quick thinking on your part certainly saved her life thats for sure. Rolfe. Quote Link to post
countrymaid 2
My ex partner is allergic to wasp stings, he was driving on the motorway and he went to have a swig of coke from his can and dident relise there was a wasp in there. He had it in his mouth and it stung his mouth and back of throat he managed to pull his car over onto the hard shoulder and got out and collapsed on the hard shoulder he could hardly breathe!! well somebody saw it and called for an ambulance hes lucky to be alive. I work in a school and we have to carry epi pens for around 10 of the 140 kids out our school mainly for stings and aligies. my old spaniel years ago got a sting up between his toes and it was agony for him the vets had to sedate him just to have a look at it. Tracy36 0
my dog is sooo lucky by the sounds. he was stung LOADS of times last year by wasps. taught him to keep away from things that buzz tho, this year fingers crossed hasnt been stung yet. he did go to look in a rabbit hole, saw a couple of wasps coming in and out and now wont go near it. (my daughter is allergic to tomatoes, mangos, latex, bananas, kiwi fruit anything with natural occuring rubber, yes condoms included!! each time she is exposed her reaction gets worse and may end up having to carry an epi-pen) Edited July 27, 2008 by Tracy36 Quote Link to post

jaws66 0
my 2 pups got stung about 2 weeks ago both of them 2 or 3 times I found the stings and pulled them out . I rang the vets and he said to give them 1 pireton tablets . Within half an hour they were both fine so it might be worth having a packet with you just to be safe Quote Link to post
skycat 6,173
Happened to me last year: my 2 older terrier bitches were mooching about in brambles and came out covered in wasps. Very groggy. Gave them half a Piriton (antihistimine) each and within half and hour were right as rain. OK, they weren't in anaphylactic shock quite, but were obviously in great pain: one had 35 wasps stinging her and the other over 40. the old terrier got stung by 2 bees the year before and keeled straight over: luckily she revived by the time I got her back to the van, but it could have been curtains. Now I carry Piriton with me all the time in the summer. Quote Link to post
