Guest eirnhunter
nice pics, what are you useing on them,243,22.250,what. 243 [bANNED TEXT] i am changing my 22,250,for a 243,stier manlicker, dont know much about this modle of gun but the gun its self is ok,no one will be aloud to shoot deer in the republic of ireland next season with a gun smaller than a 243,or so i was told,i like a good head shot. pegandgun 52
In my opinion neck shots are fine at close range but head shots are out of order.Twice ive seen a deers jaw blown off and the deer run away. Both deer where eventually killed. If that shot of Foxhunters was another two or three inches to the left then that would have blown the deers jaw off as well.To be honest i cant see the point in a head shot when a neck shot is an instant kill with far less chance of a none fatel shot. Just my oppinion.... Quote Link to post
cramp 4
you have got a point there pegandgun but i have shot a lot of deer head shot and have never had one run off yet. but i done chest shot last season and the little b*****d run 100yds with a perfect heartshot i dont feel safe doing heartshot but thats just me Quote Link to post
FOXHUNTER 5,021
Yes Peg has a point about head shots , but I have never seen a head shot deer run off ever.I have though seen 2 neck shot deer run off , 1st one was a fallow buck which I dropped on the spot only for it to run off as we approached it, luckily it was dispatched a few fields further on.I also neck shot a red stag which did the same thing , but unfortunately we lost it!! I have never seen a roe get away with a head or neck shot though!!! Quote Link to post
