bog eye 0
morning all, was at my permission earlier, and after an hour and half i had 2 furry friends in the bag. I decided to have a go at gutting em. Following advice sought on here, i set to work, first i de-pissed one, then made a 2in gut in its belly and began to shake the intestines out. Now here is the problem, it stunk like f**k, and started to make me heave   is this normal for them to smell??? or had i shot one with a problem, any help would be appreciated cheers Pete Quote Link to post
Halfinch 51
:11: They aint the sweetest smelling feckers on the inside, but did you shoot it with a head shot?, if not and you hit the guts, that'll do it, or maybe you caught the guts with your knife, either way welldone for trying, persevere, you'll get used to it. Rhodey 96
It aint that bad, there are worse smelling things out there. Well done for having a go. Quote Link to post
countrycommando89 7
you most likely opened the guts when you stuck the knife in. there are some vids on youtube.com about gutting. DONT CUT THE INTESTINES FOR GOD SAKE MAN. you will only do it once. or i watched a vid where you stick the blade in dont give a worry about piercing the guts, give a big old slice right down the beast. then grab its legs and give it a good firm lash and all the guts should fly out in one foul swoop Quote Link to post
Grim Reaper 1
It aint that bad, there are worse smelling things out there. Well done for having a go. Yes indeed . . . . and I have come across quite a few of them in my job, I can tell you! Seriously though, Well done anyway mate. Stick at it and you'll find in the end that you will not find it so bad. A good tip is to breath through your mouth ( as opposed to your nose) and the smell will be very much less. Take it from one who knows. All the best, Grim. Quote Link to post
SEAN3513 7
nice one pete!!.........lol get yourself a knife with a gutting hook!! no danger of opening anything else but the stomach, and its like having a zip on your rabbit. i cut from genitals right up into the rib cage and pull everything out ( heart and lungs aswell) its also good practice to inspect the liver for any signs of disease. keep at it mate.........it will become seccond nature before to long, if you get a big bag of rabbits one night you'll pick it up quickly. have a look on you tube..........theres some quite good techniques on there. keep at 'em mate all the best sean Quote Link to post

As soon as i have finished shooting i gut them save doing when you get home just ready for the freezer then. Plus like what others have mentioned its easier when there warm skin comes off no bother.
