hunterlass15 0
Another new person! lol My name's JJ, im 17 and I am a girl! Im not exactly a newbie, been around for a while, just never posted and not got around to saying hello Into every aspect of hunting, I started off with the ferreting after my dad bought a terrier off a guy who owned some ferrets and that got me going on that, and now I have managed to collect 14 ferrets and manage my own breeding programme during the summer. I then got interested in birds of prey after I did some researched and read about working hawks over ferrets, this again caught my eye and started up with falconry and now own a 12yr old Harris Hawk and a Kestrel which I also use for falconry displays throughout the summer. A friend of mine then got me interested in lurchers and I had my heart set on getting my first one. Unfortunately I didnt have a very good time with lurchers, all pups. I got my first one, black and tan mixed lurcher called Bramble which ended up becoming blind, I had him put down and me being the type of animal person that I am couldnt live without a working dog so soon found another one, a white and tan whippet x greyhound, I called him Buddy of which was deaf. I was heartbroken by now, the owner was kind enough to take the dog back off of me and so I thought perhaps third time lucky. I found an absolutely adorable lurcher, a black rough coated bedlington x whippet x greyhound, I called him Ash and for about six months we grew up and bonded like no other and he went with me wherever I went. He then started having problems with his coat, his fur was falling out and his hips were becoming disfigured, for me this was the end of the rope and I gave up. About six months later I met someone who introduced me into ground work and I accompanied him out for a few days and I liked what I saw. I was hooked. A couple of weeks later and I had found myself a black and tan, 1/4 lakeland x 3/4 border terrier, now coming up for 9 months old we are best of buddies and I cant wait to get him going. I was hoping to get him working to ground but about a month ago I was out walking him with the other dogs we own and he collapsed and started fitting shortly after I had put him on his lead. This again is a big knock in my confidence but this time its not gonna put me down. He will be with me until the end and I am currently facing the decision on whether or not to work him to ground or just work him above ground on absolutely everything else. Anyway his name is Bristle. Here is a pic. The other pup I now own is Jack. A Tri-colour Jack Russell from ground working stock. Hes just turned seven months and has the attitude . He is absolutely amazing, and so far ,so good (touch wood) . He has had his first rabbit and I know its not much considering his age but he would have had more had things not been rough at home. But hes gonna get every opportunity he can get now. And the next pic is of Jack. Feel free to tell me what you think I also do loads of other stuff - Ratting, Shooting, Ferreting, Digging, Hawking, and hope to do anything else. As you have probs guessed, im not your typical girl but the thing that I think is important is I enjoy it and am just annoyed I didnt discover hunting 5 years ago when it was legal cause I would have been everywhere like a rash I've also got a rescue collie x whippet at seven years old, he doesnt work but enjoys being out with the terriers and chasing anything that the terriers bush. I'll put a pic up of him too, hes called Lucky. Theres a pic of my Harris Hawk, Casper as well and my Kestrel called Harley Anyway, Nice to meet you all! x Edited July 25, 2008 by hunterlass15

Tallyho 181
hello and welcome, if the dog fits i wouldnt use him to ground, just use him for the odd bit of bushing an a bit of ratting, hopefully your luck with dogs will change soon, all the best , tallyho. Thanks for the advice, I was just going to stick to working Bris above the ground as I dont think it would be fair on him and Im not sure I would want anything to happen to him if he happened to have another fit whilst down a hole JJ x
