Guest WILF
Thorpe Lea is a runs water, pure and simple...........if you want better quality fish you need to find a lower stocked venue. You soon sicken of catching all those small carp after a while, its just one after the other. Quote Link to post

maty j 6
When I started fishing I was content catching little rudd, gudgeon, and roach all day. Then I got pissed off unhooking them all the time and aimed for small carp and keep moving up to bigger stuff but still If I catch a 10-15lb carp I will be pleased. I know to most It won't be much and I'm sure I will want to go bigger once the attraction of these wears off on this size range. I'd love to try on a lower stocked lake for some better fish but lower stocked generally means less runs and if I'm not catching I'm not having fun Quote Link to post

mart123blue 0
I have never fished thorpe lea but it is a difficult balance, at the moment I am struggling and it is not much fun not catching. Ok to fish the mega hard venues if you have the time of T Hearn, M Gray etc but I do not have this never mind the skill and knowledge. I have read Still Searching and Mr Hearn will fish 12 overnighters just to prove the fish have switched off. If you have that much time available good luck to you, not trying to make excuses by the way Quote Link to post
Guest WILF
No, fair play lads.........I wasnt trying to have a dig at anyone with my post. The time bandits will allways score, but you just get to see the photos..........you cant judge your own season/sucess on others (especially the "stars"....lol) If you get to fish one 12 hour overnighter a week for 3 months and catch 2 or 3 large fish (and by large, I mean large to you........not the non-sense angling weeklys large) then I would say thats a pretty good season. Thats 1 good fish every 4 trips or so............not so bad then is it..........drop in a few smaller fish/tench along the way........your still keeping busy. Runs waters are fun, but they teach you feck all in the long run as you dont take as much care or put as much thought into your angling because you dont HAVE to! Time REALLY has feck all to do with it. Quote Link to post
