i suppose it would depend on if you wanted security of your money ? and did you want low risk or high risk high return investments ? i have money in premium bonds and so far this year i am geting 15% return on my money so not bad . lots of site around with lots of clever people offering help for nothing . Youve just got to learn to steer clear of the sharks .

I'm sure gold is and will always go up but that doesn't look like much of a profit to me, I still wouldn't sniff at it but.... How about Darcy books M, My maths has never been any good but hows 350% profit :whistling: I may of got my sums wrong, it has been known before :icon_redface:

I'll have a look at that link CM, Thanks mate :victory: I thought it was 3.6K Shepp and wondered were the 7k was from. How much tax could I expect to get taken per year and would that be just off the interest or the main lump sum of money - say 10K for example. As you can tell I'm not too bright with all this stuff :icon_redface:

Were would be the best place to put again say for example 10K. Must be safe but I want max $$$$ back for investment? :hmm:

Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated

Starting from the beginning you can invest 7k in a stocks and shares type isa each year. Any profit you make will not be taxed in any way.

I really think you need to see a financial advisor, they are not all crooks and with 10k to play with it will be worth it in the long term.

As someone else has advised you previously, in my opinion, it is better to pay one that charges by the hour, they will save you the money back.

If you want to discuss this further pm me your mobile number and I will discuss it with you.

As I said before I am not a financial advisor and have no axe to grind, but I may be able to give you a steer, problem is it is complicated and I will wear my fingers out trying to type it all. :)
