new ferret

i got a new ferret the other day and its 8 weeks old and every timw lift it it nip's will it grow out of it or will just keep on gettin nippet

keep handling it mate :censored: and hopefully it will soon give it up, the more you handle it now the easier it will get when your out in the field, good luck :thumbs:

Hi, you can always try to handle it after feeing it meat, ie rabbit, chicken wing, mince etc.

Try not to pull away from the nip, but gently push in to the kit with your finger. I stress, gently. Some people tap the nose of the offender as well.

It will ease with time, as the affection builds towards you.

mine is the same..8 weeks and always nippy..it doesn't hurt and i dont mind her doing it for now as its what kits do but i am slowly trying to stop her doin it, a few more weeks and im hoping she'll be fine..i dont believe in tapping or flicking them on their noses though but everyone will have their own methods

this definetly works i have been doing this to mine for last 3-4 weeks keep offering your finger after you push your finger in their mouth and they will start to lick it ,

I'm not much for nosetapping.

I always say a strich AHAH or NO when bitten. If a ferret needs more than that you can hold it in the scruff of the neck when saying NO (support it with the other hand or hold it gently against the floor)

I like this method because it is simular to the way ferrets work things out themselves and so far it has worked for me.

 

If the ferrets are biting from fear then gentle handeling is the way, no punishment.

Never had to nose tap. Can't see the point of meeting violence with violence on an animal that won't make the connection.

 

I just point a finger and say 'NO' in a firm voice.

Squawking in an ear'ole (the ferrets') sometimes works too.
