Went out a couple of evenings ago to film some deer on one of my patches - no the rut has not started here yet.

 

In one 25 acre field with woodland on 3 sides I counted 13 roe and amongst them were 5 bucks - nothing very striking the best two being small 6 pointers. As they were about 130 yards away I called them and two came running up the hill to within 30 yards then both quickly veered off when they got my scent. Having heard the call and then scenting me that will be the last time I will be able to try that with these particular two deer this season.

I have had three bucks all were rutting one old fella was clearly intent on kill a nice young buck i was keep for the future .He hit so hard i though he had killed him anyway he took a bullet and the young one went off pride hurt but will hopefully live to fight another day.

called twice yesterday morning and had a young buck crashing out of the brambles ,he stood broad side @30 yds and dropped to a neck shot made my morning
