got my .223 back

I got my .223 back today. The shop i bought it from took it to bits and reckon there was debris in the chamber at the side which they think was causing the shells to stick in the chamber.

i can only take what they say at face value as they are the experts so i will try again tonight to set the sights in.

One thing they did say was im using hornady ammo and they say its brass could be too soft for my gun. Anyone had any experience , specifically problems, with hornady brass being too soft? They were pretty nice about the whole thing and offered to swap the hundred i bought for another brand if i have anymore problems.

there are alot of people that use hornady mate so i cant see it being the brss that was your problem.

see how it go's and if it does it again tell them you want a new howa never mind new brass

Don't think it could be soft brass either mate if all is not well, try new cartridges, then get a new rifle if not 100% satisfied.............let us know the score, hornady normally make good ammo to a high quality...............

I too cannot see it being the Brass being to soft. If they found brass debris in the chamber, perhaps its was the batch of Rounds but any rifle should fire any ammo. What if I were to fire them in mine? Not a Howa, would they have the same problem?

 

I am thinking it could be a slightly underbored chamber and the brass is being filed when it is chambered.

 

Just my thoughts, cant see it being the ammo to be honest, I use Hornady with no such problems.

This was /is the problem. Any info whatsoever on soft brass is welcome. Its a £20 round trip fuelwise and so far ive been there and back 3 times. If i still have a problem i can take the ammo back and swap ammo for another brand which is fair enough i suppose but it still means im £20 down again, plus if it doesnt work i will be another £20 down going to get the gun to be taken back to be sent to howa.

I don't buy that, not one bit. hornady is a reputable manufacturer. That said, have you tried another make to see if there is a difference? I've had a similar problem with Barnaul, and it's continued since I used Barnaul in my Remington. I will be cleaning things this eve, hopefully all will then be well as I've seen it happen before with that cheap stuff.

 

Shouldn't be happening with Hornady though.

Ok, latest is i went out tonight and it started again.

I had put through a dozen or so shots and had the sights about set at 100yd thinking everything was fine when one got stuck. I tapped it out and put a few more through when another decided to stay put up the chamber.

Im going to go to my local rfd tomorrow and buy some different flavour bullets than hornady-this should be the deciding factor in whether the brass is too soft on hornady ammo for my gun , or its a "bigger" problem.

Don't blame you; a new rifle giving those kind of problems is not acceptable. 'Soft brass' etc etc is just an excuse. Factory ammo is designed to work reliably in a wide range of rifles. A sticky round in a chamber can usually be pulled out with a bit of work with the bolt, but if the extractor claw isn't doing the job then the rifle is suspect.

check to see if the rounds that did extract have any slight markings on them, such as little scores, As this would suggest a burr in the chamber somewhere............i can't see the reasoning behind the shop saying soft brass..................
