Ferret finders...

Recommended Posts

Hi

This is my first post on this forum, I joined as I've got two hobs that I want to take ferreting soon, and have read some good advice on here so far - thanks!

The problem is, I have been looking at ferret finders and I was going to get the Deben Mk 3, but have heard a few bad things about it, accuracy, collars etc.

I would really appreciate other peoples opinions on the best locators, as I obviously want to minimise any chance of losing my boys!

Many thanks

i use a mk 1 with ferrets mate theyre old now but theyre the best for ferrets in my opinion try ebay if you want 1 of these or the wanted section on here ive also heard bad things about the mk 2 and 3, iv seen a few posts on ehre about the loc8er light its only £40 and gos quite a far distance above ground but i dont knwo what its like for locating underground as ive never seen or used 1 but maybe someone else will fill you in on this but mk 1 for ferrets everytime for me.

if you have never used a locator before, then go for a mk3, most people that own'ed a mk1 then tried going onto a mk3 hated it, because its a totally different way of using, the mk1 is a good locator, but times have moved on, if it was such a great locator, why have we got a mk3

you'll see lots of view points on the different locators, my advice would be deciede what one to go for, get it, then try it out, before rushing out to change things, lots of people dont like the nylon collars, but then again, alot do, including myself

definately agree with stubby. i recently bought a mark 1 15ft and to be honest i think its crap, especially when you see the technology of the mark 3. us new age need new technology.lol

im only 21,

and agreed obviously the mk 3 is more up to date and a better piece of kit, the trouble is ti breaks i only know a few lads with it, after forking out for it for terrierwork all the lads have all had broken mk 3s and now moved onto bellman and flint (which is the best piece of kit in this range but cant get it for ferrets pitty) so maybe if they made it more hardy then i would have 1 for my ferrets.

Thanks for all your replies they have been very useful. I think i'll go ahead and try the Mk3 if the actual 'finding' ability is ok, as I don't think it will have very heavy use.

When you say it breaks, is it the collar? And in what way does it go? Would it be possible to change the nylon for leather myself do you think? Cheers

I must be a dinosaur because i love the MK1s, would not part with my tired old unit for love nor money easy to use and doesn't make that awful noise like Rolf Harris playing a stylophone while on acid.
