Guest smashygadge
well my little whipx is a bag of energy i thought whats this dog on? never seems to stop. my lurcher can have a steady walk with me which is nice and the more i walk you would think or i was, the whip would maybe steady down.so on way home today they were both putting a few rabbits up on the feild .the whip being just under 5 month i was thinking she was just running to chase them away, until boom she landed straight ontop of a sitter bang in the mouth .looking rather pleased with her self and her little catch.ive gotto say i was too.first whip ive had and didnt realise what these pocket rockets are made of .their full of guts and stamina now pleased with her. martin 332
Hi Smashy, nice result with the pup mate, but, don't rush her mate, because she is still growing, and, letting her free run too much(especially on rabbits)will effect her growth plates, and, maybe even do permanent damage.I know what you are up against too trying to stop these dogs from doing what definitely comes naturally to them,I have a 13mth old Whippet, and, she is just starting to steady down a bit.Don't get me wrong she has had quite a few rabbits, and, even other things, and,as you say they have no end of guts and determination..............they are incredible dogs to work/live with..............Martin. 'Ula'.......................... Quote Link to post

'Ula'.......................... thanks for that martin and lovely dog you have. i understand what you are saying and its not what iam doing as regards running on rabbits.the dogs 100% looking herself and i didnt realise until yesterday. i just thought she was running burning of the energy like pups do. i now see that and will be holding her well and truley back.but when i go for a walk i like them to have a little gallap around bit of fun .and the power in her shoulders on the lead is quite somthing for a little dog too.she isnt wanting to heal its full steam ahead .somthing i maybe need to work on .but as stated never had a whippet before so bit shocked what the little beggers are capable of now.i expected a little calm dog like my greyhound .and she is the total oppisite lol Quote Link to post
