Some pics from yesterday's swimming trip

Dont really know what the hell this was.... looked like a cross between a butterfly and a dragon fly..

the body is bright iridescent green and the wings black... and instead of hovering like a dragon fly.. it flitted about like a butterfly! had me stumped!

while we were walking down the creek we woke up an owl... and he began hooting, which frightened my cousin (damned Native American superstitions....) she wouldnt shut up until we left the area, so i rushed to get those pics...

anyone know what it is?!

would have been a nicer pic is some local kids hadnt written all over the wall.....

Lake Jackson, not far from me just over the state line.

and a Marten(Martin?)

something killed its parents so the old man next door took it in and hand raised it, which was really a bad idea because the damned thing kept landing on the ground any time it saw a person, open its mouth and flutter its wings to be fed. THEN it followed me home.... well my husband liked him lol

this scene always makes me laugh.... difference between an Oak and a Pine...

my cousins puppy -Eunice- ...notice the eyebrows...

Thanks J, :D not sure about species either, but i've googled them since finding out about it. as much time as i spend on the river i have never seen a Damselfly before...

And yes the Martin hung around for a few days lol if you came out of the house he would land on your shoulder. thankfully he's found his place with his own kind. though you can always tell its him because he still likes to get as close to people as he can.. just doesnt use them for perches anymore lol

and yes Native Americans are as superstitious as any other culture lol they have their own fairies, witches, wizards, old wives tales, and bad omens. which is what an owl hooting in the daylight means... bad omen. i've never given such things a thought because i believe in a higher power and have REALLY good instincts!((which i need to pay better attention to and follow)) - before we left for this little trek i wanted to stay behind to make sure no one came up to steal our things... then the thought occurred to me.... i wouldnt be much competition for a group of people.... so i took my camera and my two boys and went with my cousin. after the owl hooted and we'd turned back we discovered someone had actually come into the area and my cousins and her friends purses were still on the bank. "is THIS the omen??" ... no. was a single mom and her two year old daughter.....

as we were leaving though .. the puppy was missing. she had escaped out of the car just before the door was closed.... and its a freakin miracle she didnt get flattened by the tire!! i even said to my cousin "make sure the pup is secure" .. two seconds later she's slamming on the breaks and saying "HolyShit!! There's the puppy!!" ... poor thing was standing in the road looking lost.

so i guess maybe its true..... cousin was worried about the puppy just being left and lost and the whole time i was trying to blink away visions of flat puppy......
