Rabbithunter 456
I was walking with the lurchers today round a barley field, the edges of the field weren't planted, so i was causing no damage. As i turned the corner, i spied a little head looking up from aside the barley. I already had the big dog on the lead, so i grabbed the pup, in case he decided to have a run. I was just standing watching him/her. So great to see. Sadly, i did spook the deer, and he/she ran off. Still, amazing to see. Is it advisable to go back before dark, and make sure it's mother comes back for it? Or just let nature take it's toll The one day that i forgot to take my camera, and i see something as amazing as that Edited July 20, 2008 by Rabbithunter Quote Link to post

dicehorn 38
Yes - best to leave it. The mother will come back to the spot where she originally left it. Either one will scent each other or failing that the mother will call for it. If we are talking Roe deer this sounds like her first fawn and you can be assured therefore that she was probably no more than 50 yards from the youngster - probably lying out in the barley at the time you came along.
