:drink:

does he just breed them or does he actually work them?

He's in his 70's now ...dont think he works any of his stud dogs but I could be wrong....do you think its important? :hmm:

well yeah cos if i was buying a WORKING dog a would at least want one off of working parents!!!!

Why?....dogs arn't born workers thats something they have to learn...and given that any pup you buy is around the 7 - 8 week mark it wont have learned anything from mum. and in the case of a 3/4grey x the likelyhood is that the dam hasn't been worked..so it dont really matter doe's it?

shite!!!!!!!!! a prey drive isn't taught they chase because it's :drink::drink: in them breeding off proven worker's is the way it has alway's been done

I think we may be at cross purposes here and you've misunderstood what I'm saying. "Prey Drive" isn't what I'm arguing about it's this notion that they need to come from working stock to have it.

i agree they don't have to come from working stock to have it but if both have parent's have excellent prey drive is there not more of a chance the pup's will have it to

LOL I'm not disagreeing with you mate cause this has gone away from my original arguement which was in relation to making fox dogs from pups from non working parents. Some lads think that its something a dog is born with I just happen to think that it isnt and needs to be instilled in your dog. :icon_eek:

lol will have to agree to disagree then :drink:

i wonder of the old dave hancock is reading this himself i would love to see an article on him regarding his own legacy left to the lurcher world.
iv met the old man a few times,he wouldnt give 2 fu*ks what anyone thinks or says.i had a beardie boarder 3 8th 5 8ths g,hound dog off him,my mate owns him now,iv stuck to my own working collie line.the dog my mate now has is very slow in starting, think he'l do well on big game this year,i dont think he'l have a problem with me saying that the dog is haveing trouble with his strike, although no trouble getting up on his quarry, seems to depend what mopod his in if he hits hedges or watches his rabbits in,he hunts up very well using his nose and eyes, this winter will tell.go for working parants imo :victory: Edited by ooty

:clapper::clapper: Good points well made... the white eye comes from the collie and has no effect on its eyesight....

Unless you cross a merle with a merle, and end up with a blind and deaf litter! Cheers, D.

iv bred several merles out of my own lines..(no hancock blood in there but i would use the right dog..) depends what kind of merle you use,if both dogs are mainly white then you stand a chance of the above pluss skin cancers etc,but if crossing dog with mainly a dark colour merle over their whole boby this is not the case, good coloured healthy pups cad be bred, Edited by ooty
