You can

borrow an air rifle and ammunition

use an air rifle, without supervision, on private premises where you have permission

You cannot

buy or hire an air rifle, or ammunition, or receive one as a gift. Your air rifle and ammunition must be bought and looked after by someone over 18 – normally your parent, guardian or some other responsible adult.

have an air rifle in a public place unless you are supervised by somebody aged 21 or over, and you have a reasonable excuse to do so (for example, while on the way to a shooting ground).

Well there you have it, pretty clear and concise i'd say.

Find yourself a wrinkly (old person) to take you to your permission, and happy hunting. :gunsmilie:

It is confusing, I know but you'll get the hang of it. Law isn't the easiest thing to understand which is why groups like BASC will paraphrase things and post things on their websites for 'normal' people to follow.

YES. You are allowed to shoot on your permission, unsupervised. However you are not allowed carry a rifle outside, the boundaries of your permission/home, unless you're supervised by someone over 21.

I'll try and make it a little simpler with this visual aid...

The white areas are your permission and the areas you can shoot unsupervised. Please note that if you are close to the borders of your permission your pellets are not allowed to leave the boundaries of your permission. (In this case pellets cannot leave the black lines.)

The green areas are the places you need to be supervised, by someone over 21. This could mean walking too and from your permission or getting a lift in a car. Also you cannot shoot your rifle anywhere in the green areas.

Also it's worth noting that you're not allowed to own an air rifle, or receive one as a gift, until you're 18. So for the purposes of this thread it's taken for granted that you borrowed the rifle from an adult and that you return it to them after you've finished using it. ;)

Hope that helps? :D
