mackem 26,937
So JOE turns up for our fishing session earlier and started unloading loads of tackle,I took my usual £5 car-boot rod&reel combination,a tin of sweetcorn, and a couple of hooks, joe however was loaded for bear,1lb TC rod,2oz quivertip, beautiful little fixed-spool that purred softly when the handle was turned, and a whole range of end tackle that looked as if it cost a months salary,oh yeah and baits galore,cheddar-cheese,spam(I thought he was going to make sarnies)even a couple of micro-lures designed for chub he bought from harris-angling Tiny little lures that weighed mere grams, best designed as ornaments rather than working fishing lures I thought but Joe assured me otherwise, though my premise that micro-lures would only catch mini-fish fell on deaf ears The venue is two minutes from mine,so I offered him a beautiful clean swim which he accepted with alacrity I actually wanted that swim for myself as I had thrown a tin of sweetcorn in(I even opened the tin)early this morning, but thats cool, its home ground,I knew every eddy and swirl on this water whereas Joe was a fishing untested waters, the match was in the bag I went upstream 100yards,and cut a swathe through the nettles that blanketed the bank,my forearms were stung and itchy to f**k,but I had a match to win,and no pain no gain is as true a maxim for hardcore match fishermen as it is to pumped-up bodybuilding types, besides,I had a tenner to win Fishing like this is specialised,I was alert and waited like a coiled-spring for vibrations picked up and transmitted down the line to my fingers, its a waiting game,a contest twixt man and the denizens of the deep, and we all know there was only going to be one winner...MOI Hadnt even had a nibble in 10 minutes,so I laid the rod down and went to look under sheets of corrugated sheeting for common lizards and slow worms, didnt find any so back to the river bank, picked up the rod and felt it jump,I struck the strike of all strikes and a 1lb chubb was almost catapulted into the air.."GET IN!!!LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THAT"I screeched adding a few whoops and hollers,I knew they would be audible to joe, nothing like demoralising the competition,he probably realised the match was a done deal I skimmed a few stones down in his general direction,no sounds from him,he was probably kipping or something, low attention span some guys I slashed down a few more nettles to clear the swim for next week, and jumped up and down on the bank a few times just to ensure its stable enough to take the kids for a stint Time passes quickly in the eternal battle between man and nature,I looked at my phone and an hour and twenty minutes had lapsed since I left JOE,hadnt heard a single peep from him so obviously he had caught zip, zilch, nada, nixy, nowt, but I wasnt going to rub in my victory or anything,it was obviouse I was going to win,my local stretch,my local knowledge,my win right I walked the hundred yards downstream whistling "We're in the money" Anyway, two words describe what I saw..............................Beginners f***ing Luck I am sure joe will stick up pics Biggest chubb 4lb TWENTY THREE FISH Quote Link to post

mackem 26,937
We only fished for a short period because of unforseen circumstances Some things are best left unsaid, poetic licence works both ways In fairness to him some of the Chub were crackers After the fishing we went and took pics of a fallow deer herd, nice shots of melanistic, white and normal coloured animals, and we saw some nice red deer belonging to HRH Quote Link to post

I've seen it a couple of times as it was with the herd. I wish I had a few deer to photograph sometimes but all I get is the humble coney. Quote Link to post

maty j 6
Don't think my mate fancies it now M so I'm left carrying all the rods on my own I don't go into town much but will need to soon once I have sorted something out so may as well kill 2 fish with 1 piece of corn I'm still debating my tactics.. I'll keep a look out for Joe's pics. Edited July 18, 2008 by maty j Quote Link to post
mackem 26,937
Would that be the gentleman who asked to see the Environmental Agency Identification Cards? As the old advert used to say.........................."Time,for a sharp exit!".......................Exit stage left! I thought you would enjoy that fishing, would have been better if it was somewhere a little more isolated Quote Link to post

woodga 170
well now iv seen quite a bit in my modest few years at the game. but to see you and joe using a ROD well what can i say there,s hope for you pair yet a nice peaceful session spoilt by some nosey b*****d who in my opinion is lucky he did not get a swimming lesson. next time on the venue see if you can at least mach joe and give him a bit of competion at least. you heard no noises coming from him because he was to busy catching all those fish how many did you get one i think you said come on mackem you can do better than that well done lads catch and release ensures you future sport nice one . mackem 26,937
In fairness to the Nosy b*****d,we may just have strayed a little and might have been somewhere we shouldnt have been Joe beat me fair and square to be honest 20+ fish to my one Bit like newcastle playing Sunderland in their goal count But he will be fishing the Tyne and the Wear soon, real rivers,I think he is in for a surprise. He said he has never been that far north,so he is getting his passport ready, had his innoculations, and is applying for his "Why-aye-man" visa at the Newcastle embassy in London,he has even started learning the language Should be fun Quote Link to post
