poorly puppy

hi all. my girlfriend has an 8 month old borderxlakeland pup who eat anything and everything, and recently had to take him to vet only to discover he'd swallowed a screw. last night and today he seems lethargic, off his food and just not his usual self. if he has swallowed something again, does anyone know of a way to help it on it's way out? or would you just adive trip to vet? and any ideas on how to stop it happening in future? i have years of working with dogs, but always good to get opinion of others. thanks in advance.

By the sounds of the state he's in, mate? I'd get him back down the white coats place sharpish. F*ck alone knows what he's got at this time. Might be something that's killing him. Sit and watch? He may come round. Equelly, he may lapse into a coma and die right in front of ye.

 

Then I'd put him on a chain or in a crate. In fact, what I'd personally do is what I Do do. I'd have him on a chain, outside, during the day. That way he'll have nothing to bite but stone work and won't be able to reach any 'foreign objects' to ingest and kill himself with. I'm yet to meet a Dog who can't settle happily enough on a good chain.

 

In the evening, I'd lift him off his chain and put him to bed, indoors, in his box or cage. Again, I'd thus be totally controlling his environment and stopping him doing anything we may not agree upon.

 

Finally; I'd walk him Only on a lead. See? Again I'd be in close control of what he's able to reach. Thus he'd no longer have the opportunities to regret, and cause me to regret his actions, allowed by my own laxity.

appreciate the advice ditch, i know your someone who knows what they're talking about with dogs. think he's off back down the vet this evening. no real change, perked up a little this afternoon, took him out in garden keeping eye on him all time, but no more sickness or sh1ts.

Is this pup about the five week old mark?, is he drinking a bit more than normal ?. Had a similar sort of thing myself this tear, never had it before, kennels cleaned daily, pressure cleaned and disinfected regular, I was told it was some kind of e-coli in the gut, got some Synulox tabs from the vet, shit hot things, catch it soon enough and youve got a chance, lost one pup, the smartest in the litter, firkin typical !!. As a standard procedure with any sick dog ( or animal come to that), isolate him, as the man has said, control his environment. Good luck with the pup fella.

cheerz for all the replies fellas. just to let you know, he seems fine now. took him down vet, she had a feel around his stomach, reckoned he'd picked up a bug. just kept him away from others, glucose in water to rehydrate, and on anti-bitotics now and some paste to stop the sh1ts. im not always the biggest fan of vets (when i was younger had one that was scared of ferrets!!) but the some of them are spot on fair play.
