jart 0
would like some opions, thinking of buying a deerhound x greyhound, the area that i hunt is mostly populated by rabbit but occasionally could come across the odd hare and a fox or 2, could this cross be used as an all rounder capable of taking all 3, had collie x greyhounds in the past but seemed a bit slow for the hare would take the odd one but would miss more than they got, sorry to all the saluki fans out there but not a big fan of them Quote Link to post

shotup 9
its illegal to take fox and hare with running dogs so you must shoot them first and send dog to retrieve. Quote Link to post
BIG BULL X 0
deer grey in my opinion it too tall for rabbits Quote Link to post
ivanh 4
i had a first x deer/grey.and wouldnt class him as a good allrounder.was to heavy for rabbits and wouldnt touch fox.im not saying there all like this that was just mine.you get good and bad in every lurcher but i wouldnt have another deer/grey just my opinion, Quote Link to post

johnk 0
seen this cross working great all rounders, bitches seemed to be better sometimes the dogs were a bit on the big side to make good rabbiters Quote Link to post
LDR 29
deer grey in my opinion it too tall for rabbits Not really, my dog is 27ins and takes them with ease in whatever numbers they're available, day, night, ferreted or bushed.....he comes beating on a local shoot and took everything pre ban!!! LDR 29
Is he a half x longdogrunner? Whats he like stamina wise? Cheers Joe Couldn't tell you the exact make up, Dam was ex racing greyhound, i'm assuming some kind of deer/collie mix??? He does alright on nights lamping, and hasn't gassed yet pre ban he's had 2 min courses on bigger stuff and been alright, but he dont like alot of them........... if he's fit and injury free he dont miss much so far!!!! Got a 3/4 grey 1/4 deerhound dog here ready to start this season. Hopefully he's going to be good at tracking those BIG deer. Joe I'm sure it'll do the job, they have good noses when they run on.......... Quote Link to post
undisputed 1,664
Prob better with a 3/4 x for an all rounder if you look on Catcher's profile you'll see a very good example of a deerhound x whippet grey, she was 26inches and was fearless, unfortunately she died with her boots on chasing a Roe through bushes breaking her neck. GreAT DOG IN ITS DAY! Quote Link to post
stormrider8 59
My mate has a deerhound/greyhound x Beddie/Greyhound. Real good allrounder. Quote Link to post
