More Unusual Places For Rabbit Cages

Recommended Posts

Rolfe. Never having trapped rabbits that way, do you prebait? Place the trap on a run? How does it work exactly?

Well traditionally the cages are set to one side of a distinct rabbit run....so the rabbits can pass the entrance freely....pinned tight to the ground and baited with carrot they are really effective........they are not covered in any way and although it may take a while to catch your first rabbit........the others then follow pretty quickly as the ground and cage are nicely scented.

You can also use them like in the picture........where rabbits run through shrubs and bushes.......in this instance i don't normally bait them.........the rabbits will still run into them especially if they are pinned to fresh earth. I have some beds of heathers on the golf course front lawn where i have some cages discreetly placed........i usually have one or two rabbits every morning.

Main points are.......correct location.........and using a metal T bar.......to pin the cages tight to the ground, this does two things........stops Mr Fox rolling the cages about and stops the cages wobbling about when a rabbit enters. A rabbit will be very reluctant to enter a cage if it feels it moving. No need to pre-bait any cages at all.

Hope this has been some help

Very helpful thanks Rolfe. You learn something new everyday. At least I try to...

I might make a couple up, the cages I have at the moment I made for squirrels and rats, so I need to make some rather larger. The only place we have a rabbit problem is in and around the orchard, but still no great numbers.

Cheers again.

The cages i use are 230mm wide 260mm high and 760mm long........ the bigger size is preferred over the smaller ones.
