rizzini 1
What is the best Rimfire for rabbits and small Vermin up to 100-150 yards. I cant decide between 22lr and 17HMR.I like the idea of of 17HMR or flong distance but cheaper ammo for 22lr. Any help would be appericated Quote Link to post
stillair1 16
Go for both, the .22lr is not a 150yd bunny basher in the real world. The .22lr sub drops like a brick after 100yds. Neil Quote Link to post
rizzini 1
Im just going to go for both. Whats the worse that could happen. Quote Link to post
stillair1 16
.17hmr for long range rabbits and crows, .22lr for closer rabbits and at night when noise could be an issue. Not been unknown to get a knock back on hmr for new ticket holders, but that depends on the land you have and the residing police force. In any advent, just re-apply for the hmr six months down the road. Neil Quote Link to post
rizzini 1
Dont the police prefer the 17hmr to the 22lr as it is deemed safer? Quote Link to post
stillair1 16
Although the hmr comes in a tipped format, that is no 100% gaurantee that it won't ping off depending on what it hits. Having said that, the .22lr is almost gauranteed to ping off on hard ground. Remember the .22lr is 100ftlb and the hmr round is 250ftlb and the later will go further all things being equal. A ricochet from a .22lr sub can easliy go 250yds and even come back towards you. So think backstops. Quote Link to post
