mackem 26,709
JOE called in last night to drop me off a prezzie, yup, christmas came early,a brand new landing-net with an extendable handle that he had bought when visiting some show over the weekend "How generous" you say,and "What a decent guy"...Nah,nothing of the sort really,he crunched my original handle irreparably a long time ago and only just got around to replacing it after three months of nagging He told me of his new permission,a trout lake in deepest, darkest Buckinghamshire, and would I like to visit, just to look over the place? My mate had sent me a load of those 10 in 1 DVD's last week, highly entertaining, and I was actually watching one last night about chinese ghosts who stuck a drinking straw up some kids nostril and sucked out his brains before inhabiting the vacuous cranium and controlling the kids body, scary shit As JOE had rung the bell I paused the disc at the part where the boy was walking zombie-like down the passageway towards his parents bedroom I wasnt really up for fishing last-night,thursday nights is fishing night, its tradition right? But then I recalled my boys had a load of McDonalds straws in their room somewhere so I grabbed my gear Just in case, better safe than sorry right? Dropped our kit off just inside the fishery gate-way and parked a mile further up the road in a pub car-park,there was plenty of people still drinking, sitting outside on the benches, and we parked right in the corner, tucked away, even when the pub emptied we couldnt be seen by passing motorists.A quick speed-walk back down to the gateway, and remembering last weeks incident we had came prepared, heavy chain and padlock for the gate, its the country-code isnt it?Always lock gates behind you and pick up litter, that way while you may not exactly get a verbal return invitation no one ever actually says "Dont come back" so its sort of what I always call tacit-permission Water was perfect, fish showing everywhere,so we knew that maybe we would catch one or two Quite a good night actually,we fished for 30 minutes plus or minus, not a long period of time to be honest, and we beat our normal average which is a fish a minute,I cant really recommend a specific fly or nymph from last night as the trout werent particularly fussy, they took what we offered We left our rods and fish at the gateway, and unshackled the gate,country-codes important, that way your always welcome to return, and had a race back to the car-park,joe won Back home I made a cuppa and sat in the silence, paying particular attention to the creaks and noises in the passage, just before sleeping I checked the kids,I was in luck,no visible straws Joe will stick some pics up tonight,I am sure Quote Link to post
maty j 6
Another good read M Top job lads. Now you have another landing net, any sign of that video camera Quote Link to post
mackem 26,709
I shouldnt think it will be long to wait mate, few nice little fishing clips, you know the sort of thing, intricate fly-casting,perfect nymph presentation, skilfull playing to the bankside prior to netting Though I have to be truthfull and tell you I dont know how long I can resist those big-brownies in the middle of the town, their days are numbered Quote Link to post
maty j 6
I know exactly what you mean M I was sorting my kit out the other day. I'm not sure of my tactics yet with being left to fish on my own Dry, Nymph or Lure :search: Quote Link to post
mackem 26,709
What are they?????? Quote Link to post
maty j 6
You must be referring to the top 2 pics. Being a dry fly purist you have probably never set eyes on lures Edited July 16, 2008 by maty j Quote Link to post
mackem 26,709
Now your talking Didnt have a f**king clue about the other pics That one I can relate to except your using a particularly expensive brand of sweetcorn,Princes?Whats wrong with Tescos own-brand?Your just being flash,or does Princes catch a bigger stamp of fish?I actually just had two phone calls, one was fishing related, the first was from my mate,he was in court earlier,Staines(aiiiii,Ancestoral home of Ali-G)and who does he get chatting to but Dean Gaffney AKA Robbie Jackson ex-eastender,filling in Legal-aid forms for a driving offences case, his girlfriend lives just off The Avenue, skinny little guy,I always see him in M&S shopping. The other call was fishing related,my sis is visiting her sis-in-law at the weekend in kent,Hastings, and wondered whether I wanted to fish for carp on their lake No-one,and I mean no-one except maybe nocturnal carp afficianados have fished that water, but carp just aint my bag,its a genuine lake, rowing boat the works Edited July 16, 2008 by mackem Quote Link to post
maty j 6
It's funny you should mention the corn M. Me and a mate were out carp fishing on a local lake one day. He hadn't been to get some corn so we stopped off at the local dub dub's shop for some. We both casted out once we arrived to the lake and both using the same rig - method feeder. Don't worry if you're not following M, all will become clearer soon. I had the first take. About a 7lb carp. I re did the feeder and hook bait and cast out again. hour or so later another fish. same happend another few times before my mate was getting abit pissed off. I said in jest that it's that corn your using, the fish can smell something strange on it so I gave him abit of mine and half an hour later his reel bursts in to life and he's in to a fish Perhaps it was the corn or just luck but I have never got my corn from dub dub's. The reason it's princes, well I'm hoping the big fish will appreciate quality Enough of me and my corn what are you doing in M&S, Home of the rip off prices Quote Link to post
mackem 26,709
Edited to remove the pics of your rubbish-bags?Good man,I suspect the bin-men took them away shortly thereafter?Never been into Carp in the UK Maty, fished for them abroad but the UK carp angler is a different species,I remember one doughnut telling me foreign carp "Werent no good because they aint british mate" I didnt want to educate him and tell him the fish actually originates in China Whats a method-feeder,your really good Maty, you know all the terms As for the sweetcorn, last night we could probably have bagged-up on it,one of those nights when you could easily have taken a few hundred fish if thats your inclination, but ever tried carrying more than a hundred? You cant, simple as that, enoughs as good as a feast, besides,we were using flies, thats right, feathers and stuff, just like those in your box M&S mate?Closest supermarket and I like their Merino wool jumpers Quote Link to post
maty j 6
Can't be too careful with vermin and these bi weekly collections we get now I quite enjoy summer days lazing around on the bank of the lake in the sun. Mind you one of the last times I was out the car almost ended up in the drink. It started raining lightly so I brought the car closer to the rods thinking if i get a take I can jump out and play it. Next thing I know we get a full on thunder storm. Rain bouncing off the car roof, lightening and thunder above us. As it eased off I brought 1 rod in and was just about to do the other when i got a take after getting nothing all day. I played and landed it and then packed up. I knew it would be abit slippery as the amount of rain we had plus its a hill that I needed to drive up now. Easy enough I thought till I started wheel spinning and going backwards Luckily I wasn't on my own and my mate jumped out and pushed but it could of been a bit different! Can't say I have tried to carry 100+ fish or anywhere near that. I think 20 or so would be bad enough for me and all the gear. I tested the pump out the other day, it's loud enough to wake the dead and only pumps as fast as I can blow with my mouth. I think I'll stick with the latter option now.. Merino wool or not. I called in for some micro meals once. For about 4 meals and a desert it cost about 25 quid and that was on special offer! Quote Link to post
Malt 379
Entertaining read again mackem mate! I'm glad that some people still follow the countryside code............. Quote Link to post

mackem 26,709
I have never been prone to bouts of violence Undisputed, you can use the Antis as target practice,I will just do my own little bit closing gates, picking up rubbish etc, whats the slightly modified saying?Leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but fish You know me Malt,a stickler for the rules, not my style to wander from the path of Righteousness, for was jesus himself not a fisher of men Just been shopping in M&S Maty, you aint going to believe it,got a choice of dishes tonight,corn-fed chicken, beef, and trout-fillets I always get a choice of dinner dishes, bit of pick'N'mix,we used to have a round table(yup, just like Camelot)the center spun so whichever of the plates you wanted was always only a turn away Quote Link to post
maty j 6
Wish I had such a choice. It's Hawaiian pizza for me....again Corn-fed chicken, Is that M&S's way of adding a few extra pound onto the price tag Come on Joe weres them pics Quote Link to post
mackem 26,709
Corn-fed chicken probably is a marketing ploy, tasty as though, but not a patch on yesterdays guinea-fowl curry, surprised I am still skinny as a whippet Joe is probably scoping out the canal for a pike-fishing venue,or,HEAVEN FORBID he could be making his way to mine for a spot of fishing Quote Link to post
