rizzini 1
What do I say if the FO asks me why I think a Rimfire Rifle would be better thans a FAC air rifle for shooting rabbits? Or is he asks why dont I use my shotgun? My answear for this is that of the noise and range issue. Thanks in avance, Rizzini Quote Link to post
Fidgety 8
Rimfire also more humane - heavier round. Quote Link to post
rizzini 1
Does the FO try to convince you that you dont need a rimfire. I have heard all sorts of things. Quote Link to post
snapper5 0
Does the FO try to convince you that you dont need a rimfire. I have heard all sorts of things. As long as you have a 'good reason' you should be ok. I would have thought the extended range (100 - 200 yards) at which you commonly need to shoot rabbits is a good reason for the HMR on the basis an FAC air is good for about 70 at a push. Saying that there are places I shoot that are only suitable for the FAC air. Remember the FAO will also need to agree that your land is suitable for using the HMR. Good luck. S Quote Link to post
rizzini 1
What Kind of things would make it unsutible for a 17HMR? There are a few houses and the land has a few horses. The land Is not flat though by any means. About 20-25 acres. I measured it on google earth lol. 230 yard width 228 yards long There are a big few houses towards the back aswell. Some have swimming pools and tennis courts aswell (lucky b*stards) Edited July 13, 2008 by rizzini Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Don't worry about it, just have theses responses in waiting. If he asks why you need a HMR over an FAC Air Rifle, You say that you need the extra stopping power at range and it is more versatile than an FAC Air Rifle. Also, If asked why not use a shotgun, You say that the noise and ammunition costs of a shotgun do not make for efficient pest control. Shotgun Cartridge=35p, HMR round=20p I wouldn't think he will ask you why, he shouldn't any how if you have sound reasons. The above answers are sound and watertight, they are above and beyond the normal reasons you need to give. Good luck, and I hope your FEO is decent. Regards SS Quote Link to post

andyfoster10 0
just a quick question ragarding the land do they want to look at the land you have put down Quote Link to post
Fidgety 8
They will check the land if it has not been looked at before. I recall that they do not give a hoot about the cost of ammunition/rifles. You are applying for a tool to do a job on the land you are applying for, and it is in your interests to have selected the most suitable tool(s) for "good reasons". Don't forget sound moderators, for hearing protection, disturbance to the public, and welfare of resident livestock. Best book I ever bought was Firearms Law: Guidance to the Police 2002, www.thestationeryoffice.com They will be looking for a good understanding on your part as to why you think that they should let you have a deadly weapon, so research and reading in very important. Good luck. Quote Link to post
snapper5 0
My advice would be, whilst being polite and knowledgeable, is to just answer his questions concisely and don't waffle on volunteering unnecessary information which leads to more questions. :secret: S Quote Link to post
