Docked or undocked

Recommended Posts

I'm after a Parson Russell pup at the moment. I want one for bushing and ratting and, truth be told, for old times sake because we used to have them when I was a kid.

There's a litter avilable not far from me, but they're undocked. I've always preferred them docked and there are litters of docked pups around, just not available now and not close.

Is it a big deal to have an undocked terrier for this kind of work? What are the disadvantages? Are there any advantages?

(I know, by the way, that a docked pup would have to have a vets cert).

Thanks for your help.

i wouldnt want an undocked terrier but ive done my share of bushing and ratting with terriers and lurchers and dont see an undocked dog injuring its tail.do bedlingtons get injured tails all the time?????

as for ratting in tight places,a dogs tail is in no more danger than any other part of its body.

i could be wrong and as ive said i wouldnt want an undocked terrier.

docked!! apart from the injurys that are often hard to treat, most terriers look wrong with a tail.but then did have a jack russal called nobby, had a big curly one,he was used a lot for bushing rabbits and other vermin and never had any trouble, died last year at 15 and still keen.
