Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Got an invite from Martin off the site ,to have a go at some pigeons on some unripe wheat .Farmer is not a happy man as he can see the grey hordes from the farmhouse .We both had to work until roughly 4.30pm so a late start in some peoples opinion .Set up a few plastics and the magnet without ,as yet ,any birds on ,just in readiness .I know what its like on standing corn just trying to find a shot bird so the object was to drop any birds as they pitched so we could pick them .Plans involving animals/birds rarely go as planned and the first one shot was lost to our right in long grass .Managed to lure a few in with the plastics and we were getting a few on the ground and had picked a brace for the magnet .Gathered the plastics in as the pattern of shot birds grew .Just let the birds bounce on the cradles as they were still floppy and theres no point in educating birds any more than is needed as they havent been shot here before .The birds obliged very well actually and we were soon in double figures although only a few actually gathered ? Despite a good cloud of featers on a couple ,they flew off apparently none the worse but will probably die today .A couple of good shots from both of us as the numbers mounted and we finshed ,as the sun went down ,with 48 .Never counted the pile of spent cartridges mind to save embarrassment Only picked 20 as we didnt want to flatten any more corn looking .As we finished shooting ,we could see a fox in the lower fields ,mouching about but that as they say ,will be another story .
