you feed the end of the snare through the holes of the wee bit of metal,ie if you were attaching it to a fence you'd feed 1 end throgh the hole then through the piece of fence and through the other hole then pull and it should lock tight

As DEL said that is correct............BUT.........it's a bit indistinct in the picture but if that is a self-locking snare as it appears then these are illegal. The wire should run through ONE hole only in the eyelet to become a free running snare.

Just check it out before using it as we need to be seen to be keeping our house in order at all times especially where snaring is concerned. ;)

indeed rolfe is correct that is a self-locking snare the local country store sells the same one and they lock and also when i went to usk game fair a bloke had a few boxes of the same ones and we asked him if they were self locking(which they were) and if they were legal and he said i havnt had any problems and there legal which i knew they were not,i dont think he had a clue what he was selling and they were £1.50.

The flat piece should have slots wide enough for the wire to go through double. put the wire through as if stitching cloth ie, through one hole then the other. leave a long enough tail to go round your anchor whatever you're tying it to. then go back through the little plate with another stitch going through both holes from the other direction. Good luck and watch out for badgers, etc.

If when you gently pull the noose closed.........it relaxes and slides open again it would be legal........if the noose remains closed then it would be illegal.......IE Locking.

If you close the double holes close together with a pair of pliers this would in effect create a single eyelet that would not lock. If on the other hand you opened the two holes further apart this would create a self-locking snare which as stated is illegal. The snare can be either depending on the modifications.

figure eight the end of the snare wire through the flat piece of square with the two slots that will give you an end loop , thats a shop bought snare , people are still in the dark ages at snaremaking in this country , for an extra penny a crimp could be fitted on the snares to form an endloop before selling them . as i have said many times commercial fox and rabbit made snares , are light years behind professional made snares, for a start some of the nooses for fox are to small , and they also sell ones with a couple inches extra wire which is more expensive , but the crimps pull out , when i tried them once there were eight pulled of in a couple of weeks , but i lifted them and reset with my own , and had the foxes caught up in a few weeks . a keeper came up to me at a game fair and said watch this , he put the snare loop from one of those commercial snares over his boot and wrapped the straight trace wire around his arm and it pulled right out of the crimp at the swivel.
