Nevertheless, can certainly be a pest, but simply not the numbers about compared to rabbits. thanks deker........does that mean you need a licence to shoot them, or do i presume there is a season??? we have a few on one of our permissions..........and the farmer asked us NOT to shoot them ( not that we would!!)..........he loves them and seem to think they are good for the farm!! regards sean Quote Link to post
millie 1
Neither airifle or shotgun is the tool for the job,.22lr is what you need, for a nice clean kill. Quote Link to post
undisputed 1,664
I maybe wrong but isn't there a law about killing hares during their breeding season? Quote Link to post

Contact BASC for more information. Species England, and Wales Shoot all year but.... I think Scotland and N.Ireland are different... Hares cannot be sold from Mar 1 to July 31. If the land you shoot hares on is classed as moorland or unenclosed land and your permission on that land is through the landowner or occupier then a close season and other restrictions may legally apply on that land. Unfortunately I don't have any issues or problems with Hare...can't remember the last time I shot one ...they simply don't live in Berkshire..... If there is anyone out there who has a problem with Hare and wants some help ..or just feels sorry for an old boy with no Hares to shoot at please give me a shout and I will be very happy to help you!! So...what do I need to do to bring a tear to peoples eye and get an invite to some Hare ground!!! Quote Link to post

3jackwhite3 2
well deker i was just giving my opinion, and i would pick a rimfire for shooting them but i think an air rifle is capable of taking hares as long as its in the right place, like already has been stated. Quote Link to post

leepy1 0
Why is it not sporting to shoot an hare with an airgun because the way i see it's hell of alot more sporting than shooting it from say 100f**king yards away with a rimfire whats sporting about that at least with an airgun its got more of a chance to live because we'v to get within range to shoot it without it seeing us Quote Link to post
Fidgety 8
Its not really a case of being able to kill a hare with a 12lbft air rifle, it's more about humaneness. A fox can be killed with an air rifle, but anyone who respects quarry and knows their weapons will know it can go horribly wrong. I'd see the hares on the golf course as a green light to apply for a .22rf!!! Quote Link to post
