steven price 0 Posted July 11, 2008 Report Share Posted July 11, 2008 Hi guys, Need some advise here, was approached today by a neighbour who works as a green keeper at a golf course not to far from me, now the thing is they are having a few problems with hares but am not sure if am allowed to shoot these...... We all know that the right shot will do the job but a hare is twice the size of a rabbit! Just not the right tool in my opinion. Quote Link to post
3jackwhite3 2 Posted July 12, 2008 Report Share Posted July 12, 2008 seeing as my mate shot one with the shotgun we decided to try and taxidermy its head and we compared it's skull to a rabbit's skull and its only a little bit bigger and it is about the same thickness and it should be no problem with a head shot,and dont see how it isnt sporting to shoot them with an air rifle if there being a pest or damaging golfcourses they have to go. If they are a problem they have to go, don't think anyone is suggesting otherwise.... and how do you define sporting,.... and a fox skull is not that strong either, etc, etc,... there are better, more reliable ways of doing it....simple as..... What is this Countryside Alliance business, if you are a member I would be interested in you asking them their opinion on this subjest and posting their reply!!! I am not slagging anyone off who shoots Hares with airrifles it is down to everyones personal choice.And I would chose not to shoot an Hare with an airrifle.I much prefer that extra bit of insurance a winchester sub affords. The problem with shooting Hares with airrifles is not everyone takes the headshot.We feed Hare to our Hawks and on a few occasions have found lead pellets from air rifles in the ribs which have healed over leaving pellet imbedded. My congratulations to both of you.....I can now say, after 40 years of shooting, I know of 2 people who have killed EVERY Hare they have ever shot at with a 12ft lb Air rifle..... Nevertheless, can certainly be a pest, but simply not the numbers about compared to rabbits. Quote Link to post
