comanche 3,031
No help bait wise and a little off topic but at our regular sea-fishing port their remains on the local statute -book a rule banning the landing of Skates and rays unless they have been cut-up and winged. This was originally to save the blushes of gentle-folk who might have caught a glimpse of their prominent human-like genitalia. Quote Link to post
lgray88 4
yeh we arent aloud to land them either to keep up stocks it just catch and release syetem , we take total lenght and wingspan and check for sex then we can find out from there what weight they are. no ideas where i could pick up frozen bait ive seen some but they are all small cuttlefish. liam Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
one side fillet of fresh mackeral dipped in mackeral oil at the last minute works a treat................ Quote Link to post
mattydski 560
I fish for skate out of Dunstaffnage with John Keggie of Oberon. Nearly allways fish very large mackeral flapper, or whole dogfish or alke. One thing is constant. SIZE. Also it is very important to hold still on the bottom, apparently they dont like a moving bait. We were using mega heavy leads in the fast tides of the Sound of Mull. Mega nylon traces are also the order of the day. Gets my memories going, must give John a ring....... Matt Quote Link to post
lgray88 4
we are not workin in any serious tide so i use a 2lb weight seems to be ok. but just had roker so far, dogfish ? we have to many diffrent names for fish up here i never know the proper english name for anything , is the dog the blue coloured one or the spotty brown coloured one? liam Quote Link to post
