Just got this email from my Mum. She said they reckon the mother was hit by a car died in the woods.

This little baby (no mother to be found) was first sited out back of one of

our sales offices on Monday along with a sibling who unfortunately died

before we could rescue them. We had people out looking for them after the

first siting but found no sign of them.

[My brother G] and I rushed up to the site Tuesday night after I received the call

that the baby had been seen again.

We found him in the hollow of a tree and we delivered him in to the care of

the Toronto Humane Society's Wildlife Centre in downtown Toronto. He was in

fairly good condition considering he was on his own (that we know of) for a

couple of days. He cried and cried to begin with but settled down quite

quickly. We took him into the office to cool him down a little bit and he

took a little soy milk from a bottle and then had a good poop on both G

and I, which was a good sign.

By the time we got him to the shelter, he was mewing like a little baby and

sucking on my ear. The vets were waiting for us to arrive and figured he

was about 3 weeks old at the most and as you can see he is all legs and

ears. They assured me of their no kill policy and would keep him there

while he is still nursing and then will integrate him back to the wild, most

likely at a reserve.

It was quite an experience and I don't think a baby deer has ever been

kissed as much as he was.

Nice to see well done.

A mate of mine had a 'pet' munty for years.

Had it from a wee thing and raised it by hand.

Lived in house some of the time was really 'humanised'

disproves the misconception some have of us huntin shootin & fishin folk
