jacob 28
another one i did was in a convent, the place had just closed down, and the signs went up,so i thought id go and have a little mooch, got into the front yard and an old boy come straight up to me and asked what i was doing,i chatted about this and that for a while, and found out he was the security,i asked who was clearing all the scrap,he didnt know but said for a drink i can clear it all,i thought it was xmas, this place was massive and very old,i got my petrol disc cutter and went to town, tons of copper pipe ,huge brass fittings, miles of 3 phase cable, but the cream for me was every door and every window had the old fashioned brass fingerplates and brass levers and catches, there were sacks full of em when id finished, after a week of solid work, clearing it as fast as i could ,incase the place went tits up i had it all,i weighed it all in and gave the old boy the drink he probably thought he wasnt gonna get, everyones happy, id made a nice few quid, except later i found out that the brass finger plates and old window levers were worth a small fortune in the reclamation market,i was well sick. but now i never miss the antiques roadshow
BWB 3
Glad this came up have been to the scrap yard today . thought id take advantage of the high price . alu was paying 650 steel was 110 which seemed a bit disapointing after all the media hype about the high prices . Best was the 5 old door handles which I got £4.90 for . something for nothing great ! have got some cable to take in next have stripped some of it down . but still have a bit to go anybody else do this and whats the bets way to strip it down
