slip 1
Hello guys! Thinking of doing some lamping but have no experience at all and dont even have a lamp. Where is the best place to get one and best place to start? pick a night when the conditions are right this time of year(summer) is to bright i start back in september when the evenings are getting darker!!perfect condtions would consist of no moon plenty of wind (Wild night)you need a good lamp and a good dog and good knowledge of the ground you are running and the quarry it holds!! and train your eye to the diffrent shines between badger/fox/cow/ rabbit /horse/sheep/dear/eyes and must have stock broken dog!! i suggest you go with some one who is a novice to get the ball rolling for you......cheers slip Quote Link to post

Guest smashygadge
well buddy iam 33 and only took the sport up 16 months ago ,ive never looked back. but for the begining i spent time learning about the quarry you want to deal with . read some good books and spent nearly everyday woking ferret and dog, a good basis for any beginner, and you can do that if you have local wood land as i did .then you can offer that to landowners as a starting piont.i also found a landowner much prefers a ferret man or somone that has that skill as a lot wont just let you jump in and run your dogs over their land at night unless the dogs are 100% especially with their livestock.and i found the best way to train my dog to them was to be on the land with dog and ferret bolting a few bunnys, and gives the dog the concentration on its quarry not the farmers livestock.unless you intend or have a 100% dog i would start with that before offering my services just to lamp .the last thing you want is the farmer coming along and the dogs stuck into a prize sheep or beast .and best of luck in what you choose.also enjoy it i love it Quote Link to post
