maty j 6
I've never been much of a fan of fish or trout for that matter but fancy trying something a bit different with it. Now I should say first if it is really fishy then I don't usually like it. On the rare occasion that I do have fish It's just battered cod, preferably in the beer batter From my last fishing trip I gave a few trout away and the other got baked with a few leafy veg inside it and I found it too fishy for me so after some easy recipes that I can try when when i go out with my new tackle, that's if I get anything. I do like fish cakes but will these still have the strong fishy taste coming through? Is there anything I can do to counter act that or any other recipes that you recommend?? mattydski 560
If you are eating fishery reared trout, then it is probably a muddy taste you are getting. This is as a result of the speed in which the trout is reared and the unatural diet it has eaten. The best way to mask the flavour is to smoke them. Either hot or cold. It makes them just about edible. This is my opinion anyway. You are right, it is a shame to waste them. Matt

maty j 6
I've tried loads of recipes to like fish. I really want to like eating it but i cant. I'd just give the fish i catch away to people who do enjoy eating it. Maty I should imagine you'll be getting plenty of trout soon Hopefully I'll manage a few Joe From stuffing and baking it the last few times I think i'll try something a bit different this time. I'm not a big lover of fish either. I do like those mariners pies that you get in the supermarket, the microwaveable ones. Those and the beer batter fish I enjoy but the rest is just about edible as long as it's battared. I wonder if i could do a sort of fish pie with trout?? Got the recipe for them thai fish cakes M? I think I'll have a go at them and make some ones with just parsley and garlic. I found a recipie here. and they don't sound too bad at all. I've just had another look on that link and they have a fishermans pie on there too so probably give that ago aswell. These are fishery reared trout Matty so I guess thats why then. I was in Sainsburrys yesterday looking at the trout and what price they made. The fresh off the counter ones were about 5.50/kg and pre packed about 7.50/kg I didn't think they were so expesive! Mind you they were all so small. I was wondering why they don't fatten them abit but i from what you're saying it makes sense to sell them like that.
