Malt 379
Nice little catch there Mack. I take it that you'll now have a new weapon in your armoury of fish re-locating gear? The owners of overstocked waters all over the land, can rest a bit easier now Mate. Quote Link to post
mackem 27,525
I always had a cast-net or two malt, different materials, various diameters, this ones just got a slightly larger spread than my original model, once upon a time, long, long ago(wake up malt,I am not reading you a bed-time story )I had my induction learning to use them throwing for what I was told were snow-trout high in the himalayas fishing a glacial cold fast-flowing stream, fish are fish the world over, its just the venues that differ The boy enjoyed it,thats all that counts really Quote Link to post
maty j 6
Nice one mate. I was wondering what you ment Whats the advantages/disadvantages of this to a gill net. I would guess the cast Is for smaller fish, bait fish etc but looking at them pics looks like It holds the bigger fish well. Would be a damn site quicker to lift in case of emergency than a gill too. Are you planning to use It on them rivers? Quote Link to post
mackem 27,525
Advantages?Carry it around in your jacket, couldnt do that with a 100 yard gill-net I have had fish up to 7lb in the past,if the net envelops it you can get it to the bank I dont need it for rivers Maty,I have the ultimate weapon for those But cast-nets are fun to use,the boy likes it,and its just good to get back to basics sometimes isnt it One would be ideal on your brown-trout water Quote Link to post
mackem 27,525
There you are Maty, easy as 1.........2............3,we used to spotlight fish and throw over them, carp are a cinch to take this way, very easy, suckers for a light and net approach, catch and release, same as rod-and-line,its just taking the sport at a different angle the problem with cast-nets in this country is they are way-overpriced,but thats rip off britain for you right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjAXcvo4CU8...feature=related Quote Link to post

Quote Link to post
andy s410c 61
Fishing reports are on Thursday in the Echo, get yourselves up to Morpeth high st be plenty of fish to net there Would,nt sell me gear Del cost to much to replace when the fish decide to come back to the North Sea Quote Link to post
Malt 379
Great clip that mack! Quote Link to post
mackem 27,525
You can also target individual fish Malt, which is what we used to do when lamping canals etc, takes 10 maybe 15 minutes to learn how to cast a net,its east to perfect, and you have a useful weapon in your armoury for fish re-location Best thing about this method is a simple shake,2 or 3 seconds and the nets empty and ready top re-cast Quote Link to post
maty j 6
Cracking clip M. I take It the guy could see the school of fish from the bridge and aimed for them, Not just cast out and hope for the best?? Honestly I can't see what that can do that a gill can't apart from, like In the clip target specific schools of fish (but why not run a gill under the bridge for 20-30 mis unless he needed to be quick?) and of course be In and out FAST! That's just my take on It but I'm probably missing something... I see what you mean about It being concealable that's why I was thinking It would be good for the river and salmon compared to the ULTIMATE? I think the ULTIMATE would be ideal on my trout water actually There Is a bridge that I fish off that you could use It off but other than that I don't think It would get the use. I keep meaning to get some pics of the trout there for you but the river is carrying a lot of colour with the floods so I'll let It calm down a bit first. I can see a very good place for It though. A local course pond has some nice carp In, you can see them just under the surface In the summer but they won't take any of my baits, That would be perfect for them Quote Link to post
mackem 27,525
Every single method has pros and cons Maty, but the ultimate?Only pros as far as I have found Every waded through a trout stream scanning the water?Seen nothing?the stretch is empty right?WRONG!They are still there mate, under the banking,in the weed,in holes, and you KNOW theres only one way to get them out,to get them to come to you like the rats followed the pied-piper,like iron-filings to a magnet (Had to edit this, theres three ways actually, but two are very destructive). Sure the guy had a visual on the school,he is following it down the pier casting over them, like I said though, have you ever tried to get a school of fish from a gill at night in a hurry?besides, you need a boat to set a gill under that pier, some places loacl regulations would prohibit that whereas cast nets are allowed,Cast-nettings just convenient, different, small net 12 foot diameter, easy to carry I just looked at loads on e-bay,rip-off prices for what they are,I found a malaysian manufacturer a few weeks ago on alibaba,as asian trade-sourcing site, when I was looking for a totally different sort of fishing "Implement" they produce 15-20 different patterns and diameters of cast-net,way less than a tenner per unit if ordered in number Edited September 10, 2008 by mackem Quote Link to post
maty j 6
have you ever tried to get a school of fish from a gill at night in a hurry? Is that suppose to be a piss take your right though I can see the uses but just wondering on that clip why not gill them but perhaps he only wanted a few for bait quickly, he couldn't stick around for long, who knows. It's certainly effective I know what you mean about the ULTIMATE. We used to poke them In the summer. Travel right down the river and get a few fish. A few obviously managed to miss the waiting net but with your tool 65 quid for a 6 ft net on eBay I've bought stuff off that seller before too and that was a good price, but the net If your ordering a few nets again though and need to make up the numbers to get the price down let me know I havn't a clue were I would use It apart from off the bridge but It seems a very handy piece of kit to have In the garage and at that price under a tenner well, I love a bargain Quote Link to post
mackem 27,525
It was an accidental rhetorical piss-take,the easiest ones to forgive Thats all those bayers do mate, order in bulk from the manufacturer and add on a massive mark-up because the UK market accepts it,they are handy, certainly worth a tenner, but 65 quid is a bigger piss-take than my accidental rhetorical one Quote Link to post
mackem 27,525
I liked this footage,bait-fish Quote Link to post
