shaneo95 0
Been looking around at my next rifle and the Supergrade XS78 had caught my eye and was wandering what these are like anybody had one of these before? Quote Link to post
Coney 3
Don't know a lot about the SMK range so I looked this up hope it's useful, SMK Supergrade £100 quid brand new, 800fps in .177, 600fps in .22, powered by x2 12g c02 capsules, 2.40kg in weight and a hardwood stock. However it dose'nt say what lbs it is shooting at and with what type of pellet?, I would try to find this out if you want to use it for hunting purposes. There are one or two people on here who use rifles from the SMK range and find them ok but you would need to speak direct to them for their opinions. Good luck Coney. Quote Link to post

Biffo1262 0
If you are going to go down the XS78 route do not let me dissuade you but bear a number of things in mind. The guns ARE well made despite those who would say to the contrary and have a massive worldwide following. Those that would knock them have invariably never shot or owned one and its fashionable, nay compulsory, to slag them off if you own a gun of "designer" brand. These guns and their variants are highly tuneable and they are great fun - just Google them and start browsing. I faced the same misconceptions when I joined my current club but these guns are now a firm favourite amongst our club members and only last Sunday mine was borrowed by a new member and he was astounded by it. He too was full of preconceptions about them -yet another convert. I also own an S400 but the 78 is my gun of choice, certainly for Summer shooting and thereby hangs one of the slight disadvantages. Co2 only performs well above 10 deg C. Go below that and the power curve drops off. You can overcome it to a certain extent by warming the gun using rechargeable hand warmers, the type you buy in Lidl on special. I actually insulate my buddy bottle (I use a MaxZbulk adapter and 12oz paintball bottle) and keep it warm by the above method. It works well for me. These guns need considerable polishing and tuning of the internals (easy job) to get them consistent and smooth. Mine now puts out 11.3ft lbs consistently. You will however find yourself lavishing inordinate amounts of money to customize your gun which then all adds up. I have spent over £200 on mine above the £69 original purchase price. I do not begrudge it; in fact it has and continues to give me great pleasure. Tuned, they are just as good and accurate for hunting as any other air rifle and should you go FAC are quite capable of putting out 24 ft lbs with modification. Ian Lamb of QBTune has made .38 FAC version he hunts with and it's an awesome piece of kit. .25 FAC mods are common and it's used widely in the States for hunting. One tip though. If you dont want to go down the expensive adapter route you would be well advised to get the XS79 (it is the same as the XS78 internally) version which uses the 88g Airsource canister. The 88g canisters can be purchased far more cheaply from www.Tyreinflators.co.uk as can the 12g and with the addition of a little silicone lube in the reservoir are every bit as good. With the addition of a paintball preset valve (on - off tap) you can also refill them from a bulk source making the savings even greater. If you or anyone else considering these guns want any more advice on tuning, CO2 and bulk filling feel free to PM me and I will be delighted help. Edited July 22, 2008 by Biffo1262 Quote Link to post

Please use my email address riggers2647@hotmail.com. Thanks, Regards, Ian. Hello mate,, This is one of mine that I modded and refinished, first effort on this model, I settled on 12.5 FPE, and yes im allowed this power I live in Spain,, ive got a thread going regarding the bulkfill so watch the other thread and that might help, but please remember its a serious offence in the UK to have a rifle over 12FPE,, get one that about 11.5 FPE and you will have a loverly rifle, they really are well put together just need a little TLC,, hope this helps,, Rob..
