my best coli crosses were collie line bred with big old grews they were roughly 23 inches to 24 very good dogs at bolting rabbs never seen them betterd at bolting rabbs etc so good ive bred them for 15 yeaRS now better than any whippet in afraid d slieght one lurcher feild trails with them he had alittle bitch milly it could catch rabbs for fun , my old luke could catch all sorts his pup lana wasa evn bigger faster but with the same game drive ,i would honestly go for one of that type , if i was seriously going to get a real dog for catching rabbs etc a small bitch would do you fine forget pure breds for hunting the british country side as they are not got tough skin big juicy pads or strong retreiving instincts ive got vids upon vids of dogs of this ilk catching rabbs etc , lanas 8 past got a pinned leg feched with hard work and was still catching bolting rabbs last winter shees caught a [bANNED TEXT] load of game ,i dont think a whippet would last mate cheers infact ive got a good whippet grew and it wouldnt last

I am biased, but,I would definitely go for a whippet, and, that is for all of the above reasons, and, when a Lurcher boy/girl goes to see a farmer for permission there is always a look of disdain, but, when you turn up with a whippet, they are less worried, and, invariably intereted to see how they do.They don't lack any speed, and, they have great feet with a fantastic turning ability, couple dwith all that they have an amazing desire to win, and, they just don't give up.Oh,and don't let anyone tell you they can't manage anything bigger than a rabbit,as they most certainly can, and,I mean a lot bigger than a rabbit. :whistling: Mine is a Mike Brown Whippet, and,I would definitely recommend him to anyone that wants a top dog,you might have to wait a bit, but, you will be more than happy with what you get in the end...........Martin.

aright lads gonna get meself a sight hound bin after on for ages now just to work ont rabbits like, [bANNED TEXT] would be me best purchase? was thinkin whippet meself cos i like the size, or maybe a beddy whippet cos ive heard whippets to be a bit delicate is this true?

tah lads manc

whippetts have pace but no stamina you dont get them running fast for anymore than 60 or 70 yards which 99% of the time is usless for hares

you cant go wrong with a pitbull greyhound or collie greyhound but definitely not a full whippett

dinlos on here lookat all the best rabbit dogs and i mean proper rabbit dogs who work were the rabbits are qaurries scottish country side hard stubble land , im not saying the nlrc feild trails are the best dogs but a step in the [bANNED TEXT] direction in some ways for small rabbit dogs not a pure whippet in site , i wouldnt get a pure for rabbs even tho i like them and as others do ,you need feet like colies speed like grews etc kevin walkers cleo , d slieghts kizzy milly katie p douglases maggie , m bowes luke lana , sjm ole collie type some of the kelpie types chalkies ole speckel they all worked into there old age because the were crossed and bred for the job , if you have good grass land a nice fast whippet is fine but if you run were ever a dog has to have feet bone etc only way , cant see why you want a pure bred whipp unless you want to race show crosses are always better and last the long haul im afraid or i would have whippets and nowt else aand several others

well said Mally.

having coursed with the EAWCC & VRWCC they definatly get more than 60yds well they do if they are well fed well looked after & fit.

i've run lure coursing meetings for 10 years now (under the name of the Northwest LCC) with distances upto 800yds dogs sometimes having to run this 5 times to win the final these are testing courses not the 150yds 3 gate things often run at game fairs for the lurchers.

anyone doubting a whippets ability get yourself out with a decent whippet and i think you'll be suprised.
