Guest Alfred
f**k me fellas give the young lad a break !!!!!!! if he doesnt ask he wont know ! paul they're called a sounding bar and are for finding/locating your terrier when its in ground and when he has no locator on, or if the locator fails. get to a welder/engineer and he'll knock you up one. tell him you want it made out of stainless steel. 3 to 4ft long with a 1ft t handle. Fidgety 8
Not seen these, but why make them out of stainless?? Surely mild steel would be fine? Edited July 9, 2008 by Fidgety Quote Link to post

Fidgety 8
I use a mild steel probe for mole work, rust would never be a problem on something that thick...and mild steel is one hell of a lot cheaper too. Quote Link to post
Guest pip
I have both but the stainless is a better ivestment i reckon Quote Link to post
Fidgety 8
....probably a lot easier to find in the dirt/scrub than a brown one i guess, but s/steel is pricey. Anyone got a picture of one? Quote Link to post

Exactly, used when there's no other way of locating the terrier when all else fails. Then why do lads locate their terrier and then sink a bar to see if the locator is telling the truth. The bar can be the most over used tool of the trade and in the hands of a fool can be dangerous and not help the terrier in any way. Quote Link to post
slip 1
mild steel bends very easy when under preusure in comparasin to stainless wouldnt look past it!! Quote Link to post

Well said Alfred,Neil ,i ve been using deban for years and never trusted them and therefore never left home without the spit, hopefully the b&f will give me more confidence.I think while working with a deban box you need to make sure the box is telling the truth.I also find when working with pups a bar can give you the heads up what the terriers at ,rather than open holes to a inexperienced ,and sometimes ultimately useless terrier, which could be messing ,stuck or barking at a scent.OMO Quote Link to post
figwood 0
any young lad starting out in terriers will have got his interest through his father uncle or some family member or close friend he will not just wake up and think f**k it i ll buy a terrier and start digging .so he will have a bit of a notion whats going on what the tools are and how there used so i think you ve just made a bit of a dick out of yourself paul the plonker That wasn't very nice dee mac was it? This young guy's asked a sensible question and all you've tried to do is ridicule him and in doing so have shown your self up to be the moron that you are. And it seems your an expert on human nature as you presume that all terrier fanciers like terriers because they have been handed down this gift and are somehow genetically different from the rest of the human race, let me correct you, I got into terriers while following a fox hunt my girlfriend was ridding in 35 years ago, no family, no friends. In summing up, I seriously think your a loud mouthed bigot, who, should keep it shut until :- a ) You know what your talking about. b ) You can keep a civil tongue in your head.
