I've been catching a lot of rabbits lately - have been skinning them and cutting them up for dog food. Do many people feed their dogs rabbit and could it make them hard mouthed?

Certainly fitter than me ,but then they dont drink 12 pints of real ale every weekend. Its belting down at the moment and they are pacing up and down like caged tigers, thats the downside of a high protein diet ,"all dressed up and nowhere to go".Hopefully it will ease off enough to give them a spin.

I would add that if you feed nothing but rabbit you will need to add animal fat: lamb, beef or chicken fat as rabbits are low in fat: fat gives energy: works the same way as carbs work for humans.

But I don't supose there's many people feeding only rabbit though!

No I took a leaf out of your book Skycat and throw in some breast of lamb and chicken carcasses, though I had to pay for the first lot ,now I buy my weekend bacon there ,he gives me them for nothing . PS are you going to the CLA? we have a coach up ,going on the Saturday.

I give my whippet a rabbit a week skinned and quartered, heads to the ferrets (the first thing they eat if you give them a whole rabbit anyway). I shoot feral pigeons that the the whippet also has, take the head and wings off, pluck them then let him eat the whole carcass. Never much left and hardly any muck to clean up. The terrier wont touch either of them though. rest of the week James welbeloved and tripe, every now and then raw egg and sardines in oil. The whippet shines like he's been glossed!
