Invisible dog fence

Recommended Posts

Hi

Considering getting an Invisible fence - the kind that beeps a warning then gives a mild shock, to keep my Jack within boundaries. Do they work on a keen dog? Any advice or recommendations as to which make would be a great help.

Cheers

" Keen Dog. " That's exactly the key word I came in here looking for, mate. Sorry; No. I'm quite reliably informed that they can only really be trusted with a pup or a dead head who really has no will to wander anyway.

Seems that, if ye get a pup and start him from eight weeks (or what ever) with one, it's enough for him then and he'll more or less come to regard its boundary as something not to cross, even after he may have forgotten the reason. But a grown on Dog with any metal? Go through it like a goat.

I was told that by a friend who had one for his little JRT. What would happen there is that she'd go OUT across it, inspired by something too good to miss. But then, she didn't have the heart to come back IN over it. Sadly, she wound up under a motor.

I even asked a shop where they were selling them. But he told me straight; They simply wouldn't work for my Dogs. My Dogs are all adults and know the world exists out there. Like goats .....

I have got two invisible fences, one at my parents and one at home,i find the one at my parents is great,it is fitted around the garden fence and across the drive. The one i have at home is fitted in parts over open ground in places as i have fenced in two acres and i find that sometimes they will run through it as they dont know it is there, this is my fault as i have not taken them round on the lead to train them where the boundry is,but if i had a typical garden fenced all round just to stop them running flat out at it i wouild not hesitate to recommend it,My parents house had a five bar gate that went to a six bar ,then seven and still couldnt keep my patterdales in,now they know where the boundry is you can leave the gate open and they wont go within 15 feet of it,this is in the middle of a village with dog walkers going by all day!!!My friend has got a good as new one for sale, she put it out for a week and has not needed it since to keep her American Staffy in.PM Me if you want her details.
