woodchip 2
well on sunday i was in the shed cleaning off the decoys and the cammo net when one of my neighbours called me over to her house so i popped over and she showed me 1 of the 3 bunnies she keeps as pets and asked me to have a look at it for her as the bunnie had a bad fly strike (maggots in the arse) and she asked if i would put him down. as 1 of the previous rabbits she had had the same problem and after £200 on vet bills the desission was made to put him down and he was not as bad as this 1 . i suggested she took him to the vets monday and asked them to put him down but she said she couldnt afford the £45 it cost . so i agreed to do it for her . i put him in his bed and single head shot a couple of kicks and he was gone (must admit i didnt get the ushall buzz ) it makes me sick that normal people are having to turn to this way rather than taking the animal to the vets just goes to show its all money money money and animal welfair aint a consern anymore. just wonder if anyone else had any strange requests?? Fidgety 8
Have to agree, vets bills are shocking! Quote Link to post
Edgar 1
Rabbits don't usually get fly strike in the wild in my experience. She is probably feeding it the wrong things. I was once asked to shoot a pet Guinea pig cause it had escaped in the barn and nobody could catch it. The reason was because it stole so much hen food! Killed it with a head shot at ten yards. The trouble was I had to do it when the farmers children weren't about so as not to upset them. Quote Link to post
Malt 379
I had to put the kids pet rat to sleep the same way a few weeks ago. He'd got a growth on his back, and he suddenly lost the use of his back legs. I think it's better for the animal. They won't get stressed by the journey, or the strange sights, smells & sounds at the vets. Quote Link to post
Coney 3
Have to agree, vets bills are shocking! Sad to say but it's a buisness that makes a living of the milk of human kindness.... Quote Link to post
maty j 6
yep, the neighbours rabbit escaped and they caught it a few weeks later after it had bad mixy. It got brought round to me and I was asked to kill it. Quote Link to post
ChrisJones 7,975
Have to agree, vets bills are shocking! One of my customers took the family guinea pig to the vets, to have it PTS. He was charged £86 for the injection and the disposal. Quote Link to post
figwood 0
I don't know, are vets in it for the animals welfare or money? They have to make a living I suppose, but £45 to put a rabbit down is a lot of wedge...what if your you cant afford the money, is the vet morally bound to put it down or will they just send you away with it so it can die a slow death? figwood Quote Link to post
