as the heading says some struggle more than others ... tegan does not like the heat at all and being black and having a realy good coat doesnt help her at all ... even a walk of 500 meters can have her panting exesively and wanting to find shade ..... i was starting to worry that the old chest problem was starting to re emerge but all that was put to rights when i took her for a water session ..... i took her to a nearby lake and stood around 30 meters back and threw the dummy for her as far out as i could to give her a good work out so she was dashing the 30 meters swimming a good 30 to 40 meters out then retrieving the 30 to 40 metrs back then dash of 30 meters back to me .... well after half an hour of this my shoulder was killing me and she was still chucking the dummy at my feet and standing nthere with her tail tick tocking waiting for me to throw it again ... so that put any idea of a chest problem to bed .... it is just the fact that the heat effects her badly ... which isnt a bad thing as i dont really do much hunting in the summer anyway and having the coat she has means she can cope with the winter weather with no problems .......

how are all your dogs in the sun ??? ............

Both of mine are black, a greyhound and a rough lurcher. They definately sunbathe, especially the greyhound. But ask her to walk up to the shops in the mid day sun and she looks like I've beaten her with a big stick - all woe-is-me  If I have to walk them in the heat of the day I take them through a path that is nice and shady, to a place where they can get into the water for a bit. The pup gets very hot but wouldn't take much notice if I didn't force her to take things easy.

What heat?

Most it gets here is 20 degrees!

Mine love the heat and sit outside to absorb it. My Patt swims too given any chance at all - jumps in the water trough, white water rafting down the streams and mill race! She finds the sea abit big, though - the lurcher swims in that collecting drift wood!

My Stags HATE the heat, but they hate humidty even more..thick, sticky air..im not keen either!...funnily enough, our Collie has a big, thick coat, and is mostly black, but is not affected buy the heat OR cold...she can go all day in either...even in the desert!...weird?!

My mate has a terrier bitch that is the worst dog for heat ive ever seen...she would sleep in th efreezer and still be as snug as a bug though...great for the cold.

Our Saluki LOVES the heat, and will be used mostly at the start of the season...she freezes when the sun goes down though, even in the summer!..lol.
