Stabs 3
Some days there's nothing about, and then some mornings, like today, the dogs were nose down as soon as they jumped down from the Land Rover. As usual, the old dog was leading the way, and as his speed increased I knew that the scent must have been fresh. He headed off into the trees with the old bitch stood stock still, cocking an ear for any action. She didn't have to wait long before the tell tale yodelling came through the trees, indicating the old fella was on to something. My view was impaired by the cover, but old charlie came through the trees and through the hedgeline I was standing on. He was too far for a shot, and as I crashed through the hedge with a lot less grace than the fox did. I saw him hightail it over to a biggish set in the corner with no dogs on his brush. As I turned to go back through the hedge what do I see running straight at me? Another bugger! The lurcher was soon on to him and whilst she is no fox dog, she was turning him all the time, bringing him in and out of the trees and trying to herd him back towards my shotgun. This run went on for about 5 minutes and I was very impressed with her stamina and amazed at my own lack of wind! The lurcher did her job and my shotgun (which I christened Nell after my best bitch) did the job. Nell (the shotgun) is a very useful tool Anyone care to guess the weight? Quote Link to post
