Malt 379
Finally started on the new ferret house this afternoon. The garden's gone to look something like 'Steptoes yard' over the winter, and I've been sorting it out over the last few weeks. First the old battered shed had to go, so it came down & got burned. Then that freed up the space for me to move the little 6x4 'temporary' shed that has been living on the patio for the last 12 months, much to the ire of the wife! With everything now more or less in place, I then had the location ready for my court. The timber came around 12, and then I got started on it. Just a few pics of the work in progress: Quote Link to post
Malt 379
Things were going well up until 3 o'clock, then my 'labourer' (right) came home from school to give me a hand by loosing all my nails, tools, & pencils. Then his best mate come round (left) and it got worse! I didn't really mind though, as the boy loves helping out in the garden & with the ferrets. Quote Link to post

jultaylor1972 2
It looks absolutely brilliant!! One thing though - and Im only saying this because mine have them too, I'd put little 1/4 inch feet on each corner so that you can easily hose it out (You probably have but I cant see them maybe?)But mind what a brilliant court its going to be when it finished!! The ferts will love it! Quote Link to post

The ferts will love it! That's not a bad idea Jules! It's going on a concrete base elsewhere in the garden, & that would make it nice &easy to hose out. I'll look into doing it! Quote Link to post

GarryN 5
Contiboard blocks make great feet, I have moveable beds in my court and they keep them just out of the wet and s**t. Quote Link to post
Malt 379
Another thing I like about the feet idea, is that it will stop water leaching up the plywood. I noticed today that after the incessant rain we had overnight & all of today, the bottom 1/4 of the court was soaking, as it's sitting directly on my patio waiting for the concrete base to be finished. I put small sections of 2x1 batten under each corner temporally, on top of some felt, & within a few hours it was drying out tidy, even though it was still p*ssing down. So I phoned my brother at work, and he managed to get me some damp coursing to put under the legs when I get round to doing them properly. Has anybody got any ideas on the max hight I should make the legs? I'd like to make it an inch, but I'm not sure if the ferrets could squeeze through, looking at it I wouldn't have thought so, but I'd like to be sure. It would save me a little hassle, as I've got plenty of 2x1 left, and it would leave me plenty of room so I could hose it out. Cheers for the replies, I should be getting the mesh tomorrow, so I'll post some more pics if I get the chance to do anything in the 'monsoon' that seems to have hit us here lately!
