Got the chance to buy a HW97 with hawke scopes. Its a nice looking rifle and good condition.it has a hawke scope on it and silencer. He wants 350 for it im not sure if its a good deal cz it is lacking power. What you guys think is it easy to replace the spring and boost it up a bit?I like it but it wouldnt kill a rabbit outright at the momment

thanks in advance :victory:

Sounds a bit pricey to me second-hand. You can get them new for less than that, though maybe not with the scope & silencer, & any work you have to do to it will add to the cost. Just my opinion though.

Personally I think it's way over priced.

I haven't got a recent airgun magazine but in the Feb 2008 issue they are advertising a HW97 + 3-9x40 scope, mounts, gunbag and pellets for £319 and thats new. :icon_eek:

I think someones trying to pull a fast one.

Edited to add,I'm pretty sure the silencer is an integral part of the gun.

Sounds pricey but what does he mean by lacking in power? Is that because he can't hit shit with it or has he butchered a home conversion with a custom (read Ox) spring? Sprayed WD40 down the barrel to get a couple more ft/lbs?

Weihrauch 97's are perfect, in standard guise, unless there is something physically wrong with the gun. If there is I'd be asking why it's broken and also why he's asking a fortune for a knackered piece of steel.

Buyer beware.

No he hasnt added an ox spring i actually thought about doing that if i bought it,but goiing by your comment i guess thats a bad idea lol

I shot a plastic bottle from about 20ft it just went through one side of the bottle. Other than that it is a nice gun oh and the price is steep.Im going to say to him that i posted in this section and its far to pricey.Taking into consideration i will need to get someone to service this gun and new spring what you guys think is a fair price? As i said its not got a mark on it well looked after.

If you listen to one thing I ever say... Don't use an ox spring. Ever. Especially in a superb rifle like the Weihrauch. :D It's like pouring sugar in the petrol tank of your new Ferrari.

If you can loan the rifle for a proper test try and take it to the gun smith and get it chronographed. They will tell you exactly what power it is putting out. If the gun is still under warranty, and it hasn't been messed with, you might be able to send it in for a repair/replacement.

Fair price is a tricky one as I haven't seen the gun. That is unless you have any pictures of it?

Asking me what a fair price is, for a rifle, is a bad idea. I'm ruthless. A minimum of £50 should be knocked off for sending it into a gunsmith to fix the problem but I'd be wanting to pay less than £200. He may have lost his job, his house might be up for repossession but that's not my fault nor is it my problem. I only want to give him a fixed price for his rifle. If he wants me to have it he will take what I offer. If not I'll move on to all the other bargains that are just waiting to be found, and believe me they're everywhere.

Don't be emotional. It's like buying tools. DeWalt = Weihrauch, Tesco = SMK. Ask yourself what you are prepared to give up for it and do not, under any circumstances, pay any more than that. For what he's asking you can get far better, with no problems, and you'll be shooting it within an hour of picking it up.
