Mr_Logic 5
Very sensible posts John and Jamie, I will disagree also Deker, Remington arguably make the BEST rifles full stop, working firearms for the field not the range. Logic, entry level being the cheapest, the money they are asking is extortion, the Tikka is 10 times the rifle. OK, please justify the Tikka bit, as from what I can see they both have el-cheapo plastic stocks. They both tout a full floating barrel, but you have to be careful to make sure you don't put too much pressure on the fore-end. The Tikka is a single-length action with a stop pin, the Savage is billed as a short action. The Savage is a bedded stock, AFAIK the Tikka isn't. I'm not trying to be pernickety but you're not the first person to say that the Tikka is much more gun, but on paper the Savage is its equal so I am really curious to know why the Tikka is the better rifle. I agree that if I buy the Savage I will be being fleeced, and that puts me off! Tbh, first choice right now is the Remington, but I am yet to be convinced as to its weight. Quote Link to post
Guest JohnGalway
You're looking for light weight I'm presuming? Remington LVSF? I didn't like the Tikka light myself either, but I did really like the Tikka Hunter, mind you that's a wooden stock I believe, but a nicely balanced rifle I thought. Quote Link to post
FJager 0
Well mate if your first chioce is the Rem, go for it, for me, it is the preferred make. The Savage may have things the Tikka doesn't, but the workmanship and the overall finish of the Swede is far superior. I looked at the T3 and it was just too light for my liking, very hard to hold still from the shoulder, it is very hard to load the mag through the breech and I feel the 700 action is probably the best out there. Stab's was up here the other vweekend and he just told me he thought my Rem .270 was easier to shoot than my wife's BRNO .222, now that is a big rap for the user freindliness. The Savage is made on the cheap. What sought of money can you pick a Sako up for? Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
I am looking for light weight but also (and primarily) good balance. Hence why I am thinking the SPS tactical might well be OK. I was out with my Howa the other day, and the problem is heavy moderator sat on heavy barrel, meaning that the balance is awful on a heavy rifle. If the balance was back toward me the weight would be bearable, although the sheer size of the rifle gets in the way too. The SPS tactical is more compact, though heavy-barreled, and I should think balance will be OK. FJager - Tikkas are Finnish But I hear what you're saying. Sadly Sako is £1200 and way too expensive. Lovely rifles, used to have one in 22-250. Ended up swapping it for my RWS 243 which has been excellent - I might just get one of them in 223 tbh! I saw on the AirgunBBS a review of the LVSF which said it didn't like 55gr ammo, I want something that does. Also they're not cheap sadly It also said that the Savage is a big barrel-heavy which worries me considering I will be slapping an ASE S5 on there and they're not known for their light weight! Mr_Logic 5
I think we might be confusing rifles here Jamie, the Savage is touted as 6.25 lbs... Quote Link to post
