With the things available today we can all spend a fortune on the perfect shot, pay hundreds or sometimes thousands on the best up to date rifles, scopes and mounts, pellets and various other equipment. Tuning our rifles, specific oils and lubricants, even washing and lubricating our pellets just to get that extra bit of accuracy. I don’t doubt that most of this does improve or maybe will improve our performances, but when is it time to call it an obsession and not a sport/hobby. How far have you gone? What have you tried that is radical? Have you any profound revelations? Is there a method you found we don’t know about? This is just for discussion, I know I have spent more than enough on various things I didn’t need and just wondering how far others would go too! Quote Link to post

Coney 3 Posted July 2, 2008 Report Share Posted July 2, 2008 Got to agree with sean on his post regarding who's using the gun, I know of lads with £50 quid rifles who have took more game than most people I know and without massive scopes, bipods or ultra quiet silencers. A hell of a lot is down to an individuals "field craft" and enthusiasim in my books but on the flip side of the coin I've also seen new lads to the sport picking up a £300 + PCP and descimating everything in sight after a couple of outings. I've been fortunate enough to have been able to enjoy the sport for over 20 years and accompanied many a good airgunner on countless hunting trips and had the opportunity to learn along the way for which I am greatfull. However I am guilty of trying most "off the shelf" products that are supposed to enhance your shooting abilities simply because I want to do the best I can when I am out in the field and if it means spending an extra £4 quid per tin of 500 pellets because they offer better accuracy etc etc or £££s for improved clothing/footwear I will give them a go. At the end of the day all I want is to get out for a good mooch with my mates, without any trouble from anyone and enjoy the sport while keeping within the law and respecting the countryside and the quarry I hunt. Guess some might go to extremes but hey if it gives them a buzz and keeps em happy FV. i agree with ferretville you buy what you can afford if you want that particular item if it puts more game in the bag,makes you more comfortable,gives you a bigger buzz go for it.i have just invested in 2 hammocks so myself and the youngster can spend the night up in the woods,nothing to do with hunting but just as an add on to enjoy the sport even more.what ever you think will add to the experience go for it happy hunting Quote Link to post

The thing is even if you could shoot the nuts off a gnat at 3 miles, then someone said that by having this bit of kit for £xxxx you could choose which nut to take, left or right at the same distance, would you go out of your way to try and get that expensive bit of kit, or be happy that you could just take the nuts off a gnat at 3 miles? I seem to always be buying new pellets to try them out and then discover they are not as good as the ones I normally use in the first place I have a drawer full of tins I'll never use Quote Link to post
