well me personally i started working dogs last year at a fine old age of 33 so i am only a novice self taught and learning each and everyday and so are the dogs i use .so i no exsactly where your coming from with the forum as when i joined i found that their were too many ready to jump on a genuine post and rip it to bits pull it down .all i have come to relise is that you can recognise them, and is better to steer clear or they ruin your time sharing things experiences and time :victory:

i am also a novice (and new to thl) i am looking for advice and dont know where on this site to get it.

I have a 10 month lurcher and as soon as we get a bit of stuble in the fields i plan to take him out on the lamp. what spec of lamp is needed? will a normal torch be ok to start with? also at 10 month would you say this is a suitable age? he is a big strong dog (grey x bull) and is at the mo a bit hard mouthed can i get that out of him? cheers

well bud i wouldnt use a torch no power look into investin, for lightforce or similar brand of lamp .i started my dog well before 10 months i had him working with ferrets at 6 months some wont agree but its done him no harm infact he is quite impressive on the job now at 14 month old im not complaining .he was also hard mouthed and would go out of his way to kill the rabbit prior to retreive .i just kept showing that what he caught is gowing in the bag .i never threw mixis infront of him as that can put them of retreiving and with a long few months he is starting to fetch live to hand .and given plenty of praise everytime he does is working well with him .i dont praise if he does anything i dont want out off him and he soon learned .and more he catches the better he is coming along .i think time with the dogs the key.a dogs not going to do any job without a little guidence .like any man .we all have to learn somwhere :victory: good luck

Wait till there cut and the rain softens them a bit or your dog will be cut up. Lamps - Have a look for clulite (lazerlite) nitestalker range and some like the lightforce but the wiring in them is suposed to be crap!
