bringing on a running dog

Recommended Posts

take it at a pace that your pup is comfortable at.........

my pup took part in the marking of a roe buck the other day, with was succesfully shot with the .243 by the way........... i hardly ever have my pup on the lead, and if he takes intrest in live quarry, then fair play..... if he isnt intrested, then he aint ready......

Today, we were flushing for the keeper. and the pup was just intresed in playing around, but an experienced dog flushed an animal for the gun's and he took an interest. The pup is starting to use his eye's a lot more now though ;)

Most dogs dont fully mature till around 18mnth mark with regards to entering pups theres been some good advice offered already, In my opinion the first year of a dogs life should be spent training it. Nothing wrong with taking it on ferreting days all part of its schooling just wouldnt run a dog to hard till he's a year or more. Put the work in early you'll get it back in spades when the dogs older.

never a truer word said it sounds like you know your dogs ,its what iv been telling my mate ..but fools rush in :whistling::D

ah ha

them words are like my father telling me as a youngster and a truer word has never been said till this day far to many good dogs spoilt before there time sad relay and this is a good topic for a change

Take it from one who has spoilt a good dog (me) that pushing to early only leads to regret , hindsight is a wonderful thing ,I wish I had listend but was to eager and paid the price on my FIRST lurcher..Time and patience my friends..rewards follow..

having a rag on a dead rabbit is not what i call pushing a dog on is it really ,its just having fun at that age and it dont really know the differance its just fun to the dog ,a dog thats at a age that wants to hunt is not the same as a dog that just wants to chase some thing and when it catchs it up, just runs along side it not knowing what to do with it ..good sign its not ready ..seen it ....people learn far more by there mistakes or see it with there own eyes and iv seen it ..
